Job Summary

This position is on the 5G Field Operations team responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting faults, restoring faults, break/fix of RAN, Transport, Edge & IP Networking systems within the area of responsibility. The candidate will also be responsible for supporting the Optimization team with the collection of radio performance data, troubleshooting and isolate external interference. The candidate will also support the Deployment team on new 5G radio/edge infrastructure projects, and the Transport team with the deployment and troubleshooting of any networking and 5G equipment (CDU, USM, UPF) that is physically located in the Region or Cities of responsibility. Finally, the candidate will perform, under the direction of the Commissioning and Integration (C&I) Manager all radio site shakedown tests which is the final step that brings a radio into commercial service.

Responsibilities

  • Perform fault isolation and if necessary: break / fix tasks to restore 5G radio, transport, and edge devices back into service. 

  • \n
  • Perform preventative maintenance on 5G radio, transport, or edge devices back into service. 

  • \n
  • Review daily health checks for all 5G SA network elements and respond to faults as detected. 

  • \n
  • Troubleshoot external and internal interference with the support of Tier II and Tier III teams. 

  • \n
  • Support the Tier III Optimization team with performance-related faults or issues by collecting drive test data.   

  • \n
\n
    \n
  • Support the Tier II Optimization team with the collection of drive test data who will then make parameter changes after post-processing.   Once changes are made the FE will drive the route and collect data to verify the changes produced desired results.  

  • \n
  • Interface with Program Management and partners to ensure project completion on time and within budget. 

  • \n
  • Coordinate with the site and project management teams to ensure timely delivery of sites. 

  • \n
  • Report project status and performance data to program management. 

  • \n
  • Proven ability to work in a matrix-managed organization with Program Management, RF and Transport Engineering, Site Development, and Legal to achieve deployment objectives.

  • Work with Tier II Operational teams and network design teams to implement solutions to reduce network-affecting incidents, improve the speed and accuracy of changes, reduce manual work, and enhance network tool visibility.  

  • \n
  • Provide ticket information on the corrective actions implemented. Corrective actions can range from hardware resets to Network Function stop/restarts.  

  • \n
  • Provide initial operational engineering support to detect incidents, troubleshoot problems and implement resolutions with deployed 5G Core, RAN, Transport and other network systems deployed nationwide. 

  • \n
  • Provide ticket information on the corrective actions implemented. Corrective actions can range from hardware resets to Network Function stop/restarts.  

  • \n
  • Assess vendor deployment and test strategies associated with new SW or HW releases as well as support the implementation of such releases. 

  • \n

  • Support the development of operational support processes for Comcast's 5G SA RAN, transport, edge network, and other infrastructure located within the Region. 

  • \n
  • Support Tier II with the development of troubleshooting playbooks for the 5G network including RAN, cell site fronthaul & backhaul, local aggregation hubs, distributed regional and national data centers for both user and control plane traffic, USM, and any other distributed edge or RAN infrastructure.  

  • \n
  • Work with Tier II Operational teams and network design teams to implement solutions to reduce network-affecting incidents, improve the speed and accuracy of changes, reduce manual work, and enhance network tool visibility.  

  • \n
  • Document incidents in the Comcast ticketing systems and manage escalation processes within their region of responsibility. 

  • \n
  • Support Tier II with the engagement and escalation of faults or technical queries with vendor Care support teams when critical/time-sensitive support and resolution is needed.  

  • \n

  • Collect traces for network faults using vendor-specific tools as well as network probes.

Qualifications 

\n
  • 8+ years’ experience in wireless RAN and network operations which includes troubleshooting faults & if necessary, Break/Fix of RAN, fronthaul, backhaul, EMS, transport, and edge network elements. 

\n
\n
    \n
  • Proven skill in Configuring and Troubleshooting RAN and Transport Network Infrastructure, Server Hardware, and Operating Systems, and/or data center fabric solutions. 

  • \n
  • Able to comprehensively understand artifacts (Construction Drawings, CIQ, Network diagrams, call flow documents, Deployment Procedures, MOPs etc.) during construction, commissioning/integration and debugging/fault isolation. 

  • \n
  • Experience with the collection of drive test data to optimize a wireless network. 

  • \n
  • Candidate should have experience with wireless previous experience in areas as DevOps, RAN Engineering, Systems Engineering or Site Reliability Engineering. 

  • \n
  • Hands-on experience managing network services for a large wireless network.  

  • \n
\n
    \n
  • At least 5+ years' experience in switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access networks. 

  • \n
  • Knowledge of IP and Ethernet, performance optimization techniques and methods, and its applications to wireless networks 

  • \n
  • Knowledge or professional experience with any of the following: 5G features, large-scale system simulators, 5G associated Protocols, DPDK, NETCONF/YANG, FCAPS in 3GPP 

  • \n
  • Knowledge of Open Stack and EMS platforms. 

  • \n
  • Knowledge of RAN fronthaul and backhaul dark fiber transport design and delivery requirements including 3rd party fiber agreements.  

  • \n

    \n
  • Prior experience w/creating and communicating RCA’s (root cause analysis). 

  • \n
  • Experience in wide area and access networking including fiber, DOCSIS, etc. 

  • \n
  • Knowledge of Internet protocols and services including DNS, DHCP, LDAP, SMTP, and HTTP. 

  • \n
  • Knowledge of network devices including switches, access points, and radius servers. 

  • \n
  • Alarm Monitoring, Fault Identification, Event Tracking, Event Documentation, Fault Escalation & Fault Remediation.

  • On-site operations resource will complete site walks with Construction Management, RF Engineer/s, and Construction Vendor/s. 

  • \n
  • Resource will ensure that operational and maintenance safety concerns are addressed during site walks at each location. 

  • \n
  • Evaluate the deployability and constructability from an Operations perspective of each site.  Can we maintain the site without excessive costs should be the primary perspective when evaluating deployability 

  • \n
  • Verify the constructability of the site based on the RFDS and CIQ engineering documents. 

  • \n
  • Ensure once each site is constructed, maintenance can be performed without adverse impact to SLA’s and remain within site budgetary restrictions. 

  • \n

  • Manage Tower and other support vendors when resolving faults or issues. 

  • \n
  • Document all potential safety concerns and report these to the local Ops Leadership.

  • Document Operational and Maintenance Access Requirements.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary

This position is on the 5G Field Operations team responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting faults, restoring faults, break/fix of RAN, Transport, Edge & IP Networking systems within the area of responsibility. The candidate will also be responsible for supporting the Optimization team with the collection of radio performance data, troubleshooting and isolate external interference. The candidate will also support the Deployment team on new 5G radio/edge infrastructure projects, and the Transport team with the deployment and troubleshooting of any networking and 5G equipment (CDU, USM, UPF) that is physically located in the Region or Cities of responsibility. Finally, the candidate will perform, under the direction of the Commissioning and Integration (C&I) Manager all radio site shakedown tests which is the final step that brings a radio into commercial service.

Job Description

Responsibilities  

  • Perform fault isolation and if necessary: break / fix tasks to restore 5G radio, transport, and edge devices back into service. 

  • Perform preventative maintenance on 5G radio, transport, or edge devices back into service. 

  • Review daily health checks for all 5G SA network elements and respond to faults as detected. 

  • Troubleshoot external and internal interference with the support of Tier II and Tier III teams. 

  • Support the Tier III Optimization team with performance-related faults or issues by collecting drive test data.   

  • Support the Tier II Optimization team with the collection of drive test data who will then make parameter changes after post-processing.   Once changes are made the FE will drive the route and collect data to verify the changes produced desired results.  

  • Interface with Program Management and partners to ensure project completion on time and within budget. 

  • Coordinate with the site and project management teams to ensure timely delivery of sites. 

  • Report project status and performance data to program management. 

  • Proven ability to work in a matrix-managed organization with Program Management, RF and Transport Engineering, Site Development, and Legal to achieve deployment objectives. 

  • Work with Tier II Operational teams and network design teams to implement solutions to reduce network-affecting incidents, improve the speed and accuracy of changes, reduce manual work, and enhance network tool visibility.  

  • Provide ticket information on the corrective actions implemented. Corrective actions can range from hardware resets to Network Function stop/restarts.  

  • Provide initial operational engineering support to detect incidents, troubleshoot problems and implement resolutions with deployed 5G Core, RAN, Transport and other network systems deployed nationwide.

  • Assess vendor deployment and test strategies associated with new SW or HW releases as well as support the implementation of such releases. 

  • Support the development of operational support processes for Comcast's 5G SA RAN, transport, edge network, and other infrastructure located within the Region. 

  • Support Tier II with the development of troubleshooting playbooks for the 5G network including RAN, cell site fronthaul & backhaul, local aggregation hubs, distributed regional and national data centers for both user and control plane traffic, USM, and any other distributed edge or RAN infrastructure.  

  • Work with Tier II Operational teams and network design teams to implement solutions to reduce network-affecting incidents, improve the speed and accuracy of changes, reduce manual work, and enhance network tool visibility.  

  • Document incidents in the Comcast ticketing systems and manage escalation processes within their region of responsibility. 

  • Support Tier II with the engagement and escalation of faults or technical queries with vendor Care support teams when critical/time-sensitive support and resolution is needed.  

  • Collect traces for network faults using vendor-specific tools as well as network probes. 

 

Qualifications 

  • 8+ years’ experience in wireless RAN and network operations which includes troubleshooting faults & if necessary, Break/Fix of RAN, fronthaul, backhaul, EMS, transport, and edge network elements. 

  • Proven skill in Configuring and Troubleshooting RAN and Transport Network Infrastructure, Server Hardware, and Operating Systems, and/or data center fabric solutions. 

  • Able to comprehensively understand artifacts (Construction Drawings, CIQ, Network diagrams, call flow documents, Deployment Procedures, MOPs etc.) during construction, commissioning/integration and debugging/fault isolation. 

  • Experience with the collection of drive test data to optimize a wireless network. 

  • Candidate should have experience with wireless previous experience in areas as DevOps, RAN Engineering, Systems Engineering or Site Reliability Engineering. 

  • Hands-on experience managing network services for a large wireless network.  

  • At least 5+ years' experience in switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access networks. 

  • Knowledge of IP and Ethernet, performance optimization techniques and methods, and its applications to wireless networks 

  • Knowledge or professional experience with any of the following: 5G features, large-scale system simulators, 5G associated Protocols, DPDK, NETCONF/YANG, FCAPS in 3GPP 

  • Knowledge of Open Stack and EMS platforms. 

  • Knowledge of RAN fronthaul and backhaul dark fiber transport design and delivery requirements including 3rd party fiber agreements.  

  • Prior experience w/creating and communicating RCA’s (root cause analysis). 

  • Experience in wide area and access networking including fiber, DOCSIS, etc. 

  • Knowledge of Internet protocols and services including DNS, DHCP, LDAP, SMTP, and HTTP. 

  • Knowledge of network devices including switches, access points, and radius servers. 

  • Alarm Monitoring, Fault Identification, Event Tracking, Event Documentation, Fault Escalation & Fault Remediation. 

  • On-site operations resource will complete site walks with Construction Management, RF Engineer/s, and Construction Vendor/s. 

  • Resource will ensure that operational and maintenance safety concerns are addressed during site walks at each location. 

  • Evaluate the deployability and constructability from an Operations perspective of each site.  Can we maintain the site without excessive costs should be the primary perspective when evaluating deployability 

  • Verify the constructability of the site based on the RFDS and CIQ engineering documents. 

  • Ensure once each site is constructed, maintenance can be performed without adverse impact to SLA’s and remain within site budgetary restrictions. 

  • Manage Tower and other support vendors when resolving faults or issues. 

  • Document all potential safety concerns and report these to the local Ops Leadership. 

  • Document Operational and Maintenance Access Requirements. 

  • Strong team player who can collaborate in a matrix organization with an open, engaging, and inclusive approach to work; communication is essential. 

  • Ability to thrive in a High-Stress environment while working with field technicians, Vendors and Leadership.

  • Verify and Correct Method of Procedure (MOP) documentation for activities to be performed in a production environment. 

  • Ability to grasp higher-level technology issues and troubleshoot to resolution. 

  • Ability to span departments to assist in resolving network event outages. 

  • Ability to multitask, meet objectives and solve issues in stressful situations with high speed of completion and high degree of accuracy. 

  • Ability to quickly learn new tools and systems.  

  • On-call escalations for 24x7x365 infrastructure. 

 

Travel Expectation Up to 30% 

 

Education 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or  

  • Two-year vocational degree in a technical discipline with a minimum of 6 years of equivalent work experience working in a wireless network operations environment; or  

  • Technical military communications training with at least 6 years of equivalent work experience working in a wireless network operations environment. 

  • CPI Certified is nice to have but not required.
