Job Summary

Provides environmental advice, services and support to Vistra Corp. and its subsidiaries with respect to environmental permitting, compliance and reporting. This position is based in a regional location and will have responsibility for all environmental concerns for plants and mines in the designated region, assist with corporate-wide initiatives or be a subject matter expert. Travel to plant locations and corporate office is expected ~30-40% of the time. This position will focus on the northeast and California regions but will also provide support across the company. The position will be located at any of our plants in the Northeast.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities

This position will have responsibility for environmental compliance, permitting and reporting in the designated regional location or subject matter.
Direct a comprehensive environmental program by providing guidance to complex Directors, and support groups to ensure cost effective compliance with rules, regulations and permits. Support VP-EHS on guidance to Vistra Leadership team on corporate vision and direction on regulation compliance.
Establish & maintain relationships with state/county/federal agencies and direct environmental permitting with those agencies to ensure flexible authorizations are obtained on time, within budget , with acceptable conditions.
Direct the development of cost-effective compliance plans, provide compliance assistance and implementation of new and existing rule changes, regulations and revised permitting requirements
Lead cost effective resolution strategies with regulators for compliance and enforcement issues
Manage environmental report compilation, coordinate submittals with plants, including reporting system configurations.
Manage professional technical staff review of applicable existing and proposed laws and regulations as needed to support regulatory comments, legal actions and company strategies and positions
Manage cost competitive contracts and studies for environmental requirements and other studies on an “as needed” basis
Participate in environmental reviews for due diligence, special projects or programs for development and real-estate acquisition/divestitures to determine risks associated with proposed actions.

Education, Experience, & Skill Requirements

10+ years of applicable experience in environmental sciences, engineering, environmental regulatory, permitting or compliance

Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable to above skills
Knowledge of environmental laws and regulations (i.e. CAA, CWA,, RCRA, TSCA, SARA, CERCLA, SMCRA, ESA);and state equivalent programs.
5 plus years experience and skills in managing and leading complex teams
Proficient in federal and state subject matter.

Skilled in directing and motivating professional people of dissimilar backgrounds and opinions to work together effectively to produce superior results under constant short deadlines, tight budgets and high pressure
Strong skills in resolving technical issues to comply with all environmental rules and regulations while achieving the most cost effective, flexible outcome
