Full job description

Child Therapist– Full Time, Monday – Friday, 8am-4pm, on call required

The Center for Prevention of Abuse (CFPA) is seeking a passionate individual to join our team as a Child Therapist at the main Peoria location. Our mission at CFPA is to help all people live free from violence and abuse, and our therapists are instrumental in bringing that mission to life.

Child Therapists provide crisis intervention and therapy services to child and adolescent survivors of domestic violence, sexual abuse, sexual assault, and human trafficking. They provide client-centered and trauma-informed emotional and therapeutic support in order to promote self-reliance, positive self-esteem, and necessary life skills. Child Therapists also provide medical and legal advocacy, facilitate support groups, occasionally present to the community regarding sexual assault, domestic violence, and human trafficking as well as attend required supervision by funders.

The Child Therapist position is preferential to a master’s degree in the human services field. Experience working with children and victims of sexual violence is preferred. Must be passionate about CFPA’s mission, work well independently and as a team, demonstrate non-abusive behavior in both public and professional life, and have exceptional soft skills.

At CFPA, we believe everyone deserves peace – every day, everywhere, any time – at home, in the workplace, at school and out in the community.

A pioneer in providing services to victims of violence, CFPA has grown from a single rape crisis hotline that started in 1975 to a highly respected statewide leader in working to end abuse and break the cycle of generational violence. CFPA is the only agency in the entire state sanctioned to provide its combined services of Domestic Violence, Sexual Abuse/Assault, Human Trafficking, Adult Protective Services, and Prevention Education under one roof. CFPA operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, and all victim services are free and confidential.

CFPA welcomes and encourages persons of color and LGBTQ+ persons to apply for open positions within our organization. CFPA is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate based on race, age, sex, gender identity, gender expression, national origin, sexual orientation, or disability in its policies or procedures.
