Employee Relations Director- Remote Eligible

The Director Workplace Investigations will collaboratively navigate workplace situations to reach consistent, equitable, and effective outcomes that balance business needs, mitigate risk, and maintain RSM’s values.

Essential Duties:

Investigations

  • Owner of and subject matter expert for the firm’s investigation methodology and supporting training, tools, templates, and techniques
  • Conduct and manage complex or high-risk internal investigations of key control policies, including allegations of the Code of Conduct violations, and respond to whistleblower events in coordination with internal stakeholders, ensuring a fair and thorough process
  • Provide investigation quality oversight and guidance to investigation team members or others as needed
  • Review, triage, and respond to allegations reported by employees, partners, clients, or any other interested third parties
  • Consistent with firm standards, accurately track and maintain interview notes, evidence, and any other critical relevant documentation in Navex and iManage
  • Draft clear and concise investigation reports summarizing allegations, work performed, findings, determination or conclusion, root cause, and any recommended corrective actions
  • Practice ongoing professional development to stay informed of relevant laws or practices evolving in the marketplace

Risk Assessment & Mitigation

  • Partner with relevant stakeholders to identify and recommend modifications to key policies, including Code of Conduct, Anti-Harassment/Discrimination, Whistleblower, and Retaliation policies to mitigate any risks, gaps, or failures identified through allegations and investigations
  • Partner with relevant stakeholders to recommend modification to processes, practices, or systems needed to mitigate any risks, gaps, or failures identified through allegations and investigations
  • Partner with relevant stakeholders to advise, monitor, and track disciplinary actions (e.g. coaching and guidance, reprimands, values violations, involuntary separations) resulting from violations of firm policy, values, or quality standards

Ethics Hotline Oversight

  • Administer the firm’s global Ethics Hotline in a manner consistent with firm values and quality standards
  • Respond to compliance audit requests from internal and external auditors (ISQM, CSQM, ISO, SOC)
  • Evaluate and triage reports and route or assign for appropriate response and resolution
  • Monitor and track status of corrective actions implemented in response to submitted reports
  • Lead action planning around any new legislative requirements, such as Whistleblowing or Quality requirements
  • Provide system administration and oversight to the firm’s ethics reporting system (currently EthicsPoint)

Metrics, Data Analysis, and Reporting

  • Analyze data, create data visualization and material for leadership and board presentations
  • Identify and track metrics and monitoring activities around key case types
  • Oversee the collection and tracking of relevant case data to enable reporting, analysis, and trend identification of reported matters

Skills & Attributes

  • Experience conducting workplace investigations, including independent definition of investigation scope, sources of evidence, and relevant business partners.
  • Demonstrated mastery of the practical application of employment law fundamentals and practices, including but not limited to investigations.
  • Ability to maintain focus, poise, professionalism, and courage during heated or complex conflicts
  • Experience drafting clear, accurate, professional, and concise documentation, including but not limited to investigation summary reports
  • Mastery of time management, including balancing multiple and competing priorities.
  • Strong critical thinking with the ability to analyze concepts, principles, and data.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • Relevant professional certification, such as SHRM, AWI, SCCE, CFE preferred

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 10 years of professional work experience with previous investigation experience preferred
  • Prior experience supervising employees or leading a team preferred
  • Ability to effectively convey complex facts or perspectives with varying audiences, verbally or in writing
  • Ability to interact professionally with individuals at all levels within the firm and conduct investigations respectfully and with the least amount of disruption to the extent possible
  • Ability to maintain a big picture enterprise view to recognize systemic themes or trends
  • Ability to independently manage and prioritize multiple cases and projects
  • Ability to interact professionally and influence at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to skillfully and independently navigate and network within a global and matrixed professional services organization and build key relationships without impairing objectivity
  • Ability to demonstrate and maintain unwavering integrity

Compensation Range: $154,000 - $273,400

Individuals selected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
