Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
It is the responsibility of this position to provide superior claims service for Inland Marine claims, with a focus on first-party auto physical damage and trailer interchange claims. This individual will investigate the claim, assess coverage, estimate the property damages, select and deploy vendors and experts, obtain appropriate claim documentation, effect accurate settlement within the prescribed authority and standards of performance, and identify opportunities for salvage and/or subrogation. All job duties and responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
Responsible for the direct handling of Inland Marine Auto Physical Damage and Trailer Interchange claims, which consists of investigating and analyzing for coverage, damages, reserves, as well as the handling of subrogation and salvage.
Manage appraisers, investigators, adjusters, and experts as needed.
Maintain claim files and ensure claims are properly documented, adjusted and reserved.
May be trained to handle motor truck cargo legal liability claims and/or first party contractors' equipment claims.
May work on special projects.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and at least 4+ years of relevant experience within the commercial/transportation field, with a preference for experience handling trucking, commercial auto, and/or heavy equipment claims.
Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:
Must be proactive in initial investigation, claim handling, vendor management, and resolution of claims.
Superior analytical and negotiation skills.
Must be able to act decisively and with minimal supervision.
Superior verbal and written communication skills to work effectively with insureds, underwriters, and other internal and external customers.
Excellent negotiation skills.
Proficient in coverage analysis involving commercial transportation, trucking, and/or inland marine policies.
Strong attention to detail.
Self-motivated and task-oriented
Compensation Overview
The base salary range for the position is listed below. Please note that the base salary is only one component of our robust total rewards package at RLI. The salary offered will take into account a number of factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications/credentials, talent availability & specialization, as well as business needs. The below range may be modified in the future.
