RLI's Accounting department is currently hiring for a year-round internship starting Fall 2024. This intern will assist with various accounting duties and projects in the Reinsurance Accounting area. This internship is available in our Peoria, IL home office. Work hours during the school year (12-15 hours per week) are flexible based on your school schedule. Work hours during the summer are full time (8:30-5:00, Monday-Friday).

Position Purpose

Under frequent supervision, gain a broad understanding of the RLI business through a real-world experience and on-the-job training.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Compile and analyze data for various reporting for both internal and external customers.

  • Perform various bank and balance sheet reconciliations.

  • Perform various systems reconciliations.

  • Journalize various transactions & review impact on financial statements.

  • Maintain and update contingent commission database

  • Assist with annual renewal exhibits preparation and other project/duties as needed.

Education & Experience

  • Sophomore, Junior, or Senior majoring in Accounting

  • Minimum 3.0/4.0 cumulative GPA preferred

Knowledge, Skills, & Competencies

  • Organized, detail-oriented, analytical, and problem solver

  • Experience in Excel, solid grammar, and writing skills

  • Demonstrated success in a classroom setting, and a desire to learn

  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with others while working as part of a team

Internship Pay Rates

When participating in an internship at RLI, salary is determined by the group that is being supported as well as relevant educational factors.

  • General Internship: $20/hour

  • IT & Underwriting: $22/hour

  • Legal: $25/hour

  • Actuarial: $20-$26/hour*

*Dependent on number of completed actuarial exams.

  • Typical intern hours are dependent on the time of year that an individual is working for RLI. 10-15 hours/week during the school year and 30+ hours/week during the summer.
