Description

Duties: Under the supervision of the Gift Shop Manager, the Lead Cashier & Gift Shop Admissions Staff are responsible for the following:

  • Train new cashiers on proper protocol and procedures.
  • Be the guest services and entry point for guest questions and concerns in the absence of the gift shop manager.
  • Interact with guests and call other managers for assistance as needed.
  • Sell admissions accurately and efficiently. Actively solicit membership sales and all other appropriate tickets/offers.
  • Sell all souvenir or concession items accurately and efficiently.
  • Receive and tag merchandise.
  • Stock gift shop shelves.
  • Keep all gift shop areas and work spaces clean and "visitor friendly".
  • Attend to all customer needs in a prompt & courteous manner.
  • Answer phone calls; relaying any necessary messages to staff.
  • Record group reservations and coordinate tours, parties and rentals with the Educational Department.
  • Check messages and work schedule at start of shift.
  • Open registers and prepare assigned area before public arrives.
  • Close out registers and other devices at the end of the business day and transfer money and appropriate paperwork to supervisor.
  • Clean assigned areas at end of business day to standards.
  • Assist in preparation of deposits and associated record keeping.
  • Inventory gift shop stock on a regular basis and make reports.
  • Check supplies of all Zoo forms and publications (donation, membership, Adopt-an-Animal, Zoo brochures) and replenish displays as necessary.
  • Wear proper designated uniform.
  • Follow all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed. Support all aspects of the Park District’s safety program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions: The work requires some physical exertion in handling supplies, equipment and materials. Prolonged standing, bending and stooping, and ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds is required on a periodic basis. The programmed activities involve everyday risk, which require normal safety precautions typical of the recreation industry.

Qualifications

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Experience working with computers and handling money. Experience in retail and/or customer service preferred.

Knowledge and Ability:

  • Ability to accurately handle money.
  • Ability to quickly solve problems.
  • Ability to lead other cashiers and retail clerks during busy times.
  • Ability to manage the gift shop and entry cashiers when the Gift Shop Manager is off.
  • Aptitude for on-the-job training and ability to follow both written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.
  • Personal: Must be dependable and have good customer service skills.
