Description
Duties: Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Adult Learning, the Adult Literacy Teacher Moonlight will be responsible for:
- Conduct and/or coordinate outreach/mentoring efforts to recruit participants in education programming.
- Schedule all appropriate class times and class locations.
- Providing regular progress reports and maintaining required statistics for the program as required by funding.
- Follow all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of the Peoria Park District safety program.
- Maintain certification in adult literacy.
- Must have a valid Illinois Driver’s License.
Essential Functions: The work requires some physical exertion in handling supplies and materials relevant to programming. Prolonged standing, bending, and stooping at events. Ability to understand and complete paperwork and record-keeping in order to complete duties. Ability to operate a computer, copier, and fax machine.
Qualifications
Education: Four-year college degree or Master’s Degree in Education. Although a degree is preferred, experience in a like position with similar duties and responsibilities may be substituted for all or part of the educational preference.
Experience: Experience planning, developing and implementing educational programs preferred.
Certification: Maintain certification in adult literacy.
Knowledge and Ability:
- Must have strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Must have excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Must be flexible and willing to assist with a variety of teaching and administrative duties.
- Must be dependable, courteous and able to work with people from a diverse background.
- Proficient in basic Microsoft Office programs.
- Ability to provide the best possible image of the Park District so the public respects and appreciate the Park District, its facilities and the quality of its programs.
- Ability to work harmoniously with the Peoria Park District personnel, community leaders and organizations and volunteers in an enthusiastic and cooperative manner.
- Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.
- Ability to develop a broad-based knowledge of the community in order to further Park District objectives.
- Must have a valid Illinois Driver’s License.
