Description
Duties: Under the supervision of the Out of School Programs and Camp Manager, the PlayCare Attendant is responsible for the following:
- Supervise and care for children aged 2-10 in the child watch space while their families utilize the gym.
- Facilitate children’s play experiences in a welcoming, enthusiastic, and safe manner.
- Lead recreational activities for children under your care. Activities include but are not limited to: arts and crafts, Legos, pretend play, sports, reading, puzzles, and more.
- Be alert to children’s needs, and report them to parents and the Manager as needed in a timely manner.
- Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure proper care and utilization, report needs promptly.
- Thoroughly clean equipment and spaces after use.
- Be dependable to report to shifts on time. Current available shifts are morning and evenings Monday through Thursday, and mornings Friday and Saturday.
- Follow and support all aspects of the Park District’s safety program.
- Attend all staff meetings as required.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions: Physical requirements could include endurance for prolonged standing, bending, stooping, walking, and sitting on the floor. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate equipment for recreational activities. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate activities and ability to respond to emergency situations.
Qualifications
Education: Must be at least 16 years of age. Coursework in child development, education, psychology, recreation, sociology, physical education, STEAM, or other related subjects is a plus.
Experience: Previous child care, babysitting, teaching, camp, or recreation experience working with children ages 2-10 required.
Certification: Ability to obtain or become certified in First Aid/CPR (free certification available at Peoria Park District upon hiring).
Knowledge and Ability:
- Ability to interact positively and respectfully with children, parents, and staff.
- Must be caring, enthusiastic, and have a legitimate enjoyment of working with children.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with a minimal degree of supervision.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with co-workers and the general public.
- Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.
- Ability to work independently to facilitate recreational programming.
