Description

Duties: Under the direct supervision of the Chief Naturalist, the Weekend & Rental Hose is responsible for the following:

  • Manage patron experience by answering questions, handing out maps, and facilitating interactions with nature center displays and education animals.
  • Answer phones and electronic communications.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the nature center and Trailhead Nature Store.
  • Take reservations and registrations for programming and rentals.
  • Handle all major forms of payment in a retail setting.
  • Host group rentals at the Nature Center.
  • Follow all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed; support all aspects of the Park District's safety program.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions: The work requires some physical exertion in handling supplies, equipment, and materials. Prolonged standing, bending, and stooping, and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds are required on a periodic basis. The programmed activities involve everyday risks, which require normal safety precautions typical of the recreation industry and animal industry.

Qualifications

Education: An associate’s degree in Environmental Science, Education, History, Biology, or a related field is preferred. Experience may be substituted for educational requirements.

Experience: Background or interest in natural history. Previous customer service experience is preferred.

Knowledge and Ability:

  • Ability to communicate and work harmoniously with the public and fellow employees in an enthusiastic and cooperative manner.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with people of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Ability to handle different methods of payments.
  • Ability to use common systems, such as Microsoft Office, and ability to learn RecTrac system.
  • Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.
