DUTIES: Under the general supervision of Proctor Center Education Manager, DREAM2 Group Leader is responsible for the following:
- Supervise, lead, and instruct various recreational and educational programs at the Proctor Recreation Center. This position will help to create and implement curriculum for various age groups between the ages of 5-13. Activities include, but are not limited to: support of recreational activities, educational activities such as homework help, online math and reading practice, as well as daily reading. Leader will support music and fine arts education, STEAM activities, and social/emotional learning, and assist with the creation and performance of the annual Black History Month Celebration, and others as requested.
- Engage and encourage participants to meet their educational and social/emotional goals.
- Come to work prepared to implement daily scheduled activities and lessons, and helps to set up needed equipment for daily curriculum.
- Facilitate programs/curriculum and daily activities based on the needs of the group. Is willing to contribute to planning of program activities, as needed.
- Act as a key motivator and advocate of participants.
- Complete required training/professional development and staff meetings, as needed.
- Monitor supplies/inventory for future classes.
- Maintain a positive relationship with all employees, participant, parents and volunteers.
- Follow all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed; support all aspects of the Park District's safety program;
- Perform all other duties as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Some college preferred.
Experience: Experience leading recreational and educational programming.
Knowledge and Ability:
- Desire and ability to work with children in an educational and recreational setting.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively to design and implement curriculum.
- Excellent customer service and organizational skills.
- Ability to lead others in group and individual activities, demonstrating necessary steps and skills.
- Effective communication with staff and program participants and ability to respond effectively and quickly in varying situations.
- Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers
Approximately 17-20 hours per week, ranging from 2pm-6pm.
