Description

DUTIES: Under the general supervision of the Recreation & Sports Coordinator, the Athletic Intern is responsible for:

  • Serve as the League Coordinator, responsible for being the main contact and direct representative of the assigned sports program(s).
  • Oversee registration, coach team selection, and pre-season meetings.
  • The candidate will develop goals and objectives for their experience and be asked to evaluate them at the conclusion of their internship.
  • Assist in the inventory and distribution of supplies and equipment.
  • Assist the coaches in the setup/tear-down of practices and games.
  • Prepare records and reports including payroll, league/event schedules, evaluations, and marketing materials.
  • As part of the internship program, all interns will assist in several Peoria Park District signature events, as assigned.
  • Participate in professional development sessions and team building activities as assigned.
  • Following all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed; supporting all aspects of the Park District's safety program;
  • Performs all other duties as required.
  • This is a grant-funded position available to both high school-aged individuals up to 15 hours per week and undergraduate-aged individuals up to 20 hours per week.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Prolonged standing, bending and stooping.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs.
  • Safety precautions typical of the sports and fitness industry.

Qualifications

Education: Status as a current High School or Undergrad College student.

Knowledge and Ability:

  • Knowledge of computers including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain a flexible schedule.
  • Display an understanding of the philosophy of recreation sports programs.
  • Some knowledge of sports skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with private organizations and special interest groups.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.
