HIGHWAY - MECHANIC

Job Description Summary

To repair, maintain, and service all County vehicles and equipment.

High school diploma or equivalent. The incumbent must have knowledge of the operation of numerous shop machines such as: brake lathe, drill press, welder, cutting torch, misc. hand tools, etc. The incumbent must have a current Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A and must be able to drive various pieces of equipment from automobiles to motor graders. The incumbent must be certified in Air Conditioning repairs-recharge, vehicle on board computers, fuel injection, mobile equipment hydraulics, hydrostatic drives, truck and auto electronics, air brake and truck pneumatic systems, antilock brake systems, and automatic transmission and drive train repairs. The incumbent must have welding and metal fabrication experience. The effective performance of this position is measured by the timely repair of any mechanical breakdown and the smooth operation of all rolling stock. Certificate for Underground Storage Tank Operator for the State of Illinois within one year of hire, with recertification every two years.
