Job Description Summary

The Assistant Superintendent position manages the daily operations of the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center including custody, medical/mental health services, social services, and other services. The Assistant Superintendent/Shift position assists in the development, reviews, and makes revisions of the Policies and Procedures that govern the operation of the Juvenile Detention Center. The Assistant Superintendent/Shift position ensures that the Juvenile Detention Center maintains compliance with professional standards and guidelines for the operation of Juvenile Detention Centers and the overall welfare of the juveniles detained. This position is responsible for the supervision, safety, care, and counseling of the residents at the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center in order to provide a secure, structured environment conducive to the physical safety and well-being of the residents.

Master’s Degree in management, public administration, criminal justice, or social services, and one or more years employed in court services, criminal justice, or social services; or, a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university and three or more years employed in court services, criminal justice, or social services. Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age and possess a valid Illinois Driver’s License. Incumbent's name must appear on the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts (AOIC) Supervisory Personnel List. Pass a pre-employment medical exam, drug screen, and background check including but not limited to LEADS and CANTS. A result of negative from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) Child Abuse Registry.


The Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center is seeking an individual with experience and proven leadership skills for the Assistant Superintendent position.

The Assistant Superintendent position is a Grade 11 with a salary range of $58,277 - $99,073. Additionally, this position will receive on-call pay up to $5,000 annually.

After completing the initial employment period, the base salary increases by 5%.
