Pay range for this position is $31.67 - $47.47/hour. Actual pay is based on years of licensure. This is an Hourly position.

Travel: This nurse will be expected to travel 1 day a week to outreach clinics. Valid Driver's License is required. A CHOI company vehicle can be provided.

Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: The Children's Hospital of Illinois Pediatric GI Registered Nurse provides specialized clinical support to pediatric gastroenterology providers, with a primary focus on caring for medically complex patients, including those enrolled in in intestinal failure programs. This role supports two primary providers based in the Peoria office and participates in weekly outreach clinics in Moline and Galesburg. The nurse plays a critical role in patient triage, care coordination, patient education, and supporting efficient clinic operations across multiple locations to ensure safe, high-quality, and family-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

1. Provider & Clinic Support

  • Provide dedicated clinical support to two pediatric GI providers in the Peoria, Moline, and Galesburg clinics
  • Travel to outreach clinic in Moline or Galesburg 1 day per week to support patient care
  • Assist in maintaining efficient clinic flow across all locations

2. Clinical Care & Triage

  • Perform patient triage, including management of incoming calls and patient portal message
  • Assess patient symptoms and escalate concerns appropriately to providers
  • Support clinical decision-making through accurate documentation and communication

3. Care Coordination

  • Coordinate diagnostic testing, procedures, and subspecialty referrals
  • Manage scheduling and follow-up for complex care needs
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (dietitians, social work, pharmacy, etc.)
  • Ensure continuity of care across clinic and outreach settings

4. Complex Patient Care

  • Support care for medically complex pediatric patients, including those with intestinal failure and chronic GI conditions
  • Assist with management of specialized care plans, including enteral/parenteral nutrition and feeding tube support
  • Participate in ongoing care management and coordination for high-acuity patients

Patient & Family Education

  • Provide comprehensive education to patients and families on GI conditions and treatment plans
  • Educate and support families on biologic therapies and nutritional therapy injections
  • Provide home management education, including care for nasogastric (NG) tubes and management of common conditions such as constipation
  • Reinforce medication instructions, dietary modifications, and follow-up care

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Licenses/Certifications: IL RN License
  • American Heart Association (BLS for Health Care Providers)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: BSN
  • Experience: 6 months experience as an RN in a healthcare environment
  • Other skills/knowledge: Electronic Medical Record and Microsoft application basic proficiency
  • Other requirements/information: Ability to regularly and timely travel between various sites
