Expected pay for this position is $29.01 - $34.13/hour. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills and internal equity. This is a Salaried position.

About the Role

This position is central to enhancing the patient and family experience by designing and delivering uplifting, memorable moments within our hospital community. You will lead the planning, coordination, and execution of special events, holiday celebrations, and visitor programs—all tailored to support the emotional and psychosocial well-being of pediatric patients.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Special Events & Community Engagement Coordinator plays a vital role in creating positive, uplifting experiences for patients and families at OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois. This position is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of special events, holiday celebrations, and visitor programs that support the emotional and psychosocial well-being of pediatric patients. The coordinator ensures all events and visitors align with hospital policies, safety standards, and the unique needs of children in a healthcare setting.


Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in hospitality, communication, child development or related field.

Experience:

1 year of experience in event planning, volunteer coordination, or public engagement, preferably in a healthcare or nonprofit setting.

Other Skills/ Knowledge:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to be detail oriented.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in hospitality, event management, public relations or closely related field.

Experience:

  • 3+ years of event planning experience.
  • Experience in hospitality.
  • Experience working in a hospital or pediatric setting.
  • Experience with or education in child development. Familiarity with HIPAA and hospital safety regulations.
  • Experience working with volunteers or external community partners.

Other Skills/ Knowledge:

  • Communication and interpersonal skills for interacting effectively with students, peers, and cooperating clinical agencies to provide an environment conducive to student learning
