Expected pay for this position is $29.30 - $41.36/hour. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills and internal equity.
Overview
POSITION SUMMARY: The Lead Surgical Tech serves as the mentor for new surgical techs with complex procedure/operating room equipment, and instrumentation and ensures assistance to the proceduralist/surgeon and other team members during surgical procedures.
The Lead Surgical Tech leads surgical team members in planning and implementing complex procedures. Primarily performs duties of scrub person throughout the intra-operative phase of care. Recognizes significant patient conditions, notifies the appropriate patient care team. Adheres to a high standard of patient safety principles, along with application of aseptic and sterile techniques. Follows and understands the standards and recommended practices according to the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN) and Association of Surgical Technologist (AST).
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Requires completion of a Surgical Tech program and Surgical Technologist certification with a minimum of 3 years working in a Surgical Tech role or minimum 5 years working in a Surgical Tech role.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years in a Surgical Tech role with completion of an accredited Surgical Tech program
- Minimum of 5 years in a Surgical Tech role if not certified
Licensure/ Certification:
- American Heart Association CPR (BLS)
- Surgical Technologist Certification or 7 years or more in the Surgical Tech role
Other Skills/Knowledge: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to be detail oriented. Demonstrated leadership, communication, organization and critical thinking skills to perform effectively and efficiently under pressure of stressful or emergent situations. Requires intra-operative orientation to learn department/unit policies, procedures and work routines; to develop competency in the use of medical equipment and instruments used in the operating room; to learn quality/safety standards; and to gain an understanding of the various types of surgical procedures within their service line.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Associate’s degree in accounting or business, Certification in First Assisting
