POSITION SUMMARY: Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to manage care of the critically ill adult patient. Works in collaboration with a physician and other members of the interdisciplinary team to evaluate and treat acute illnesses and injuries, ordering, conducting and interpreting appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests, prescribing of pharmacologic agents and treatments, and performing necessary invasive procedures in accordance with established protocols, policies and evidenced based practice. Provides expert education, consultation, and patient advocacy.
Job Specifics
- OSF Saint Francis Medical Center is seeking an advanced practice nurse or physician assistant to join our critical care team in a busy intensive care unit.
- The advanced practice provider is in charge of several units and a member of the critical care team and vent management team. Teaching patients on units is expected.
- The critical care team covers our our neurological ICU, cardiac ICU, and med/surg ICU.
- Responsible for placing CVC lines, Arterial lines, hypothermic treatments and chest tubes among other procedures.
- APP lead service working with in collaboration with the Illinois Lung Institute physician group, which employs 11 practitioners.
- Makes care decisions independently.
- Schedule is nights with rotating weekends. No call.
