POSITION SUMMARY:
The Summer Intern Program provides an opportunity for nursing students to advance their knowledge and skills in providing patient care. Reports to Patient Care Manager. Partnered with an RN who develops and supervises the Student Nurse Intern’s experience while retaining full accountability and responsibility for the care of assigned patients. Performs basic nursing procedures appropriate for the age and/or development of the patients served on assigned unit. In addition to performing normal duties of a Nursing Assistant, must demonstrate competency in technical nursing skills generally learned/acquired before beginning the last year of a nursing program; job duties will expand as skills are learned and competencies are documented by RN partner. The following are general characteristics of this job, although duties may vary by the shift and/or unit assigned.
This intern position will have the opportunity to float between the following facility locations in our Central Region: Peoria, Bloomington, Galesburg, and Pontiac. Interns will be paired up with RNs who work on various units at our facilities and will be able to see what their work is like on a day to day basis. The CRT Float internship will allow students to gain a wide variety of experience and hands on skills on multiple units and facilities throughout the summer!
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The job incumbent is required to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit(s). This requires that the incumbent demonstrates knowledge of the princi¬ples of growth and devel¬opment as well as the physical, emotional and psycho-social needs of the patient population served. Must have completed a clinical rotation and is within one year of completion of their nursing program. Ability to turn PC hardware on/off and work with a mouse; familiar with basic elements of a Windows environment and keyboarding; perform basic computer tasks with instruction; comfortable with learning new applications. Current BLS for Healthcare Provider card- American Heart Association. Work requires the interpersonal skills necessary to comfort patients, family members and/or significant others; and to communicate effectively with other patient care providers. Work requires analytical ability necessary to prioritize work load. Must have a GPA of at least 2.5.
