Overview

Starting pay for this position is $32.21/hour

POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Director of Business & Community Health and under the medical supervision of the Medical Director of Business & Community Health, the school community nurse is to oversee the school health policies and programs. The schools nurse serves in an instrumental role to provide expertise and oversight for the provision of the school health services and promotion of health education. By using clinical knowledge and judgment the school nurse will provide health care to students and staff by screenings, health education, coordinate referrals and serve as a liason between the school, family, personnel, community and health care providers. The school nurse is responsible to demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care that is appropriate to the ages of the patients served.


Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: The School Community Nurse must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing education institution, currently licensed by the State of Illinois in good standing and have a minimum of two years’ experience in a clinical setting. Provide continuing educational credits as mandated by Illinois Professional Regulation during Nursing License renewal.
  • Other License/Certifications: The School Community Nurse must adhere to the Illinois Nurse Practice Act and the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice. CPR instructor certification required. This can be obtained after acceptance of position.
  • Experience: Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care appropriate to the age of the clients served using knowledge of the principles of growth and development as well as the physical, emotional and psycho-social needs of the client population served. Approximately two years clinical practice is required to develop proficiency in providing nursing care, and to develop proven leadership skills.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to conduct formal educational programs for clients and maintain effective contacts within the school, health care system personnel and resources. Provide continuing educational credits as mandated by Illinois Professional Regulation during Nursing License renewal.
