Excellent opportunity to join a team-oriented group of APPs and Neurosurgeons caring for neurosurgical patients at a Level 1 Trauma Center located in beautiful Peoria, IL. Hospital outpatient Department Practice consists of 8 primary neurosurgeons and 7 APPs in collaboration with the Neurosurgery Residency service (University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria). Our neurosurgical program is committed to educating, training, and mentoring APPs in learning this exciting neurosurgical specialty.
Position Details:
- Monday through Friday 0800-1630, no weekends.
- The APP (Advanced Practice Provider) performs the following tasks:
o Obtain a patient history
o Perform a physical examination
o Conduct a comprehensive assessment
o Order, conduct and interpret diagnostic tests
o Formulate a diagnostic impression
o Develop and implement a treatment plan
o Monitor the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions
o Prescribe pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments
o Facilitate appropriate consultations and referrals
o Provide counseling and education to meet patient needs
o Coordinates hospital discharges and follow-up testing/appointments
- Participate in research and quality improvement initiatives
- Comply with all required compliance policies
- Quality care and cost savings
- Timely and up-to-date documentation of medical records
Practice Model:
- 8 primary neurosurgeons +7 APPs with plans to expand inpatient and outpatient APP coverage.
- Work in collaboration with Neurosurgeons and APPs in the hospital outpatient department setting seeing hospital neurosurgical follow ups, postoperative follow ups, spine and skull fractures, traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury follow ups, and other neurosurgical patients. Assist with new priority consultation patients in collaboration with Neurosurgeons.
- Effective communication between MD, APP, and Neurosurgery Residency service (University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria) is key to fostering a supportive environment and optimizing patient outcomes.
- Elective volume; 80:20 spine
Qualifications
Requirements Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or higher in nursing or physician assistant studies. Current APRN or PA national certification, and Illinois licensure as a Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialist, or Physician Assistant
- BLS, ACLS, ENLS certification (can help acquire)
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- At least one year of acute care experience in neurosurgery or related field
