Responsibilities:

  • Works with equipment designers and manufacturing teams to develop product production processes to integrate new products or product modifications into existing processes.
  • Partners with Operations and Product Development teams to improves process and product capabilities while maintaining and improving quality standards.
  • Conducts tests under operational conditions to explore design proposals for improving performance or to obtain data for development, standardization, and quality control.
  • Determines nature of technical problems and possible solutions, such as product redesign, substitution of material or equipment, or rearrangement of process workflows.
  • Research new manufacturing technology and works in collaboration with the engineering and maintenance to improve production equipment functionality.
  • Develops and tests new products, applying knowledge of engineering.
  • Develops technical product and process documentation to support operational consistency.
  • Collects, records, and analyzes data, and provides operational reports to Product team to advance product development and design.
  • Works closely with other professionals such as scientists and other engineers on development and research projects.
  • Provide planning, direction, and coordination for all technical activities while achieving optimum use of workers, machines, materials, and facilities.
  • Assesses safety requirements and ensures that these are integrated into the process; maintains reliable and safe manufacturing systems while improving production efficiencies, yields, and changeovers.
Requirements

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in materials science, polymer science or related field of study required.
  • At least 3 years of industry experience or an equitable combination of education and experience as required to successfully perform the job responsibilities.
  • Experience with increasing responsibility in manufacturing or industrial development activities that support process improvement strategies and product development.
  • Ability to work autonomously but also lead teams through complex root cause analysis will be critical in this role.
  • Experience with rubber compounding.
  • Experience with plastic processing and understanding of polymers.
  • Excellent project management skills and the ability to manage various responsibilities simultaneously required.
  • Hands-on experience and knowledge of industrial equipment used for mixing, calendering, and milling material preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate compounding alternatives to fix product challenges.
  • Experience in experimental design and results analysis.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills, excellent interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • A start-up mentality as well as the ability to wear multiple hats.
  • Fluency in office productivity tools (Microsoft Office, Google suite).

Frequent use of hands to grasp, handle, or feel objects. Pushing and pulling on work objects with hands. Working with hot and cold surfaces. Safely working with job related sharp objects. Regular standing, walking, sitting, and reaching. Regular stooping, kneeling, crouching, occasional climbing, typically on a stepladder or stairs. Frequent lifting of up to 35 pounds; and occasional team lifting up to 50lbs. Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point), depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships), ability to focus (ability to adjust eye to bring an object into sharp focus). Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and walkie-talkies. Regularly required to use PPE.
