Position Summary:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Cyber Security Specialist to join our IT team. This role plays a crucial part in protecting the organization’s digital assets and ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of our systems. The specialist will help maintain endpoint security, support vulnerability management, assist with incident response, and collaborate with IT to strengthen our security posture.

This position is well-suited for candidates who are early in their cybersecurity career, including recent graduates, or individuals with foundational IT/security experience who are eager to grow.

This role reports to the Director of IT.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Vulnerability & Patch Management

  • Perform vulnerability scans on network devices and systems; help prioritize and track remediation activities.
  • Support and refine the organization’s endpoint patching process, including compliance reporting.
  • Maintain antivirus/EDR deployment, alerts, and signature updates across endpoints.
  • Security Monitoring & Response

  • Monitor security alerts and notifications from firewalls, antivirus/EDR, and other security tools.
  • Assist in investigating and responding to potential threats, escalations, or suspicious activity.
  • Participate in incident response processes and contribute to post-incident documentation.
  • Security Standards & Best Practices

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement cybersecurity best practices and hardening standards.
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of security policies, procedures, and documentation.
  • Help conduct basic security audits or assessments to identify gaps in compliance.
  • Operational Support & Growth

  • Stay informed about emerging cybersecurity threats, technologies, and industry trends.
  • Assist in automation or scripting efforts to streamline security operations (optional but encouraged).

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. Equivalent experience, internships, or relevant project work will also be considered.
  • Foundational understanding of networking concepts, firewalls, and endpoint security technologies.
  • Familiarity with vulnerability management, patch management, or SIEM concepts.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical teams.
  • High attention to detail, strong sense of ownership, and willingness to learn.
  • Preferred (Not Required)

  • Experience with tools such as Nessus, Manage Engine, Intune, Tenable, or SIEM platforms (Splunk, Sentinel, etc.).
  • Knowledge of security frameworks such as NIST CSF, CIS Controls, or ISO 27001.
  • Industry certifications like CompTIA Security+, Network+, CYSA+, or CEH.
