The major function of this position is:
This role focuses on ensuring a functional and safe facility environment for employees to effectively serve customers. This includes managing grounds upkeep, building maintenance (hygiene, utilities, climate control, lighting), safety protocols, and security measures. Success in this role requires a proactive approach, strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication abilities, as well as the capacity to prioritize, manage budgets, and lead a team.
Salary: 95k - 120k
The essential responsibilities of this position are:
Promote a culture of strong people management by leading with empathy, accountability, and clarity. Foster collaboration with all departments by providing facility-related support that is flexible and responsive to business needs, while ensuring all actions remain fully aligned with Maui Jim’s operational standards and values.
Partner with production teams to oversee the safety committee, implementing procedures and training to reduce work-related injury/illnesses and insure a safe and healthy workplace.
Partner with the Supply Chain and Finance teams on sustainability tracking and annual reporting. Lead planning and execution for emission reduction projects for the Peoria campus.
Support the training, onboarding, and continuous development of the facilities team by identifying skills gaps, implementing learning initiatives, and promoting best practices in safety, technical operations, and customer service. Ensure all team members are equipped to meet performance expectations and adapt to evolving business needs.
Collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders to support the planning and execution of Maui Jim local events. Provide hands-on assistance with the setup and teardown of event spaces, staging areas, and equipment. Ensure that all activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and in full alignment with Maui Jim’s operational standards
Develop and maintain the annual operating budget for all facility costs and expenses.
Oversee all building and facility issues including electrical, plumbing, climate, cleanliness, damage, repairs, spills, department layouts, furniture and fixtures, and equipment moves.
Direct and oversee maintenance of outside facilities including, grounds, mowing, landscaping, shoveling walks, and working with designers to continually implement improvements.
Develop preventative maintenance programs and schedules and assure they are successfully implemented on facility’s HVAC and production equipment.
Ensure all structural and equipment inspections are updated and completed according to regulatory standards.
Develop and manage all internal and external stakeholder, vendor and contractor relationships for constant improvement of all facility needs. This includes strategic planning for special projects and ad hoc building needs.
Manage renovations and additions. Obtain competitive bids from contractors for construction or maintenance of landscaping, parking lots, roofing and building envelope, vertical and floor surfaces, lighting, security, building access and HVAC equipment.
Oversee company security system. Immediately respond to all building emergencies and after-hours alarms.
Ensure security system updates and installations are completed successfully and that all security equipment is in excellent operating condition. Establish security building access for all employees.
Direct and enforce all company, OSHA, and EPA regulations safety standards and policies; ensuring safety compliance is always followed by all employees; troubleshoot and resolve safety issues and other operational problems.
Partner closely with Human Resources to oversee the company’s Emergency Response Plan. Act as the subject matter expert for all emergency situations including fire, weather, security, etc.
Ensure storm shelters are in operating order. Determine capacity constraints and manage installation of new storm shelters as needed.
Build and foster strong cross functional relationships across departments to ensure support of facility maintenance strategy is in alignment with Maui Jim objectives.
Assist international Operation Directors with facility related needs and activities.
Perform all other work-related duties as requested or required.
Desired Qualifications
As a guide, indicated below is the preferred experience for this position:
Associates degree.
7+ years of equivalent work experience related to facilities and/or maintenance in a commercial environment.
Deep understanding of building systems (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, lighting), grounds maintenance, and general repair procedures.
OSHA, EPA, and other relevant safety regulations and standards experience and knowledge also beneficial.
Skills preferred for this position:
Demonstrated proficiency in developing and managing annual operating budgets for facility costs.
Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to building systems and equipment.
Experience in leading, mentoring, and developing a facilities maintenance team to achieve optimum performance and morale.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build strong working relationships.
A flexible and adaptable approach to work and changing priorities.
Experience managing facility-related projects from inception to completion.
A strong sense of ownership and dedication to maintaining a high-quality facility.

Special Physical Requirements:
Ability to utilize a PC as a maintenance tool
Ability to lift 70 pounds
Must be able to bend, sit, kneel, lie horizontally, climb, walk etc., as job may require
Ability to drive a company van
Ability to work outside.
Ability to communicate in a variety of business settings with all employees, contractors and vendors.
Must be available for on call emergencies
