The major function of the position is:

To manage the operations and production within the Rx Lab by providing direction, organization, coordination, communication and employee development. Build a cohesive team, leading by example and managing directly through supervisors and/or leads. Work to improve turnaround time and meet service time goals. Responsible for controlling labor, material, and other costs. Ensure teams in departments are working together to achieve the same goals and meet customers needs.


Essential Duties:

  • Manage all manufacturing operations for 3 shifts, measuring performance and efficiencies in order to meet established profitability targets.

  • Develop and perform regular process audits within departments to ensure correct procedures are being followed. Follow up and create action plans where process is not consistent with expectations.

  • Continuously seek process improvements, staying abreast of new technologies and equipment to utilize in order to maintain a state of the art facility.

  • Develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with vendors, suppliers and industry peers.

  • Maintain department unit costs at acceptable levels including management of consumables, labor, equipment, & maintenance costs.

  • Communicate the facility goals and objectives, successes, process problems and any preventative actions that need to be taken.

  • Manage and develop supervisory team to ensure proper communication and coaching of employees is done on a consistent basis in accordance with company policy.

  • Ensure supervisory team is responding to performance and disciplinary issue in a timely manner.

  • Work closely with supervisors to plan appropriate training for all team members. Ensure proper cross-training is provided to employees on all processes and equipment.

  • Provide employees with aggressive and clear performance objectives directly tied to Lab performance expectations for quality, productivity and growth. Interact with associates to establish rapport with team members, creating an environment that inspires employees to take personal ownership for achieving goals, process improvements and encouraging team members to elevate their level of technical expertise.

  • Facilitate workforce scheduling, team member placement and job duty assignments.

  • Ensure all standard operating procedures are being followed, guaranteeing all safety and cleanliness standards are being met in all work areas.

  • Communicate business needs, schedule changes, process problems, success stories, etc. on an ongoing basis with the executive staff as necessary.

  • Perform other work-related duties as requested or required.


Desired Qualifications:

As a guide, indicated below is the preferred education and experience for this position:

  • Minimum 7-10 years management experience in the optical industry. Bachelor’s degree in operations management or business management, or related field required, ABOC preferred.

  • Previous experience in fast paced production environment with proven track record of success, preferably working experience in optical lab and digital surface technology. Previous experience expanding operations of an optical lab with ability to design or re-engineer plant layout for maximum efficiencies.
