Summary
Illinois Central College is seeking dynamic, student-centered professionals to join the Academic Support Center as a PT Professional Tutor. This role supports student academic achievement through individualized tutoring, small group support, study skills instruction, workshop facilitation, and English language learner assistance across multiple academic disciplines.
This position is ideal for an educator who is passionate about helping diverse learners strengthen communication, academic confidence, and college success strategies.
Must be available to work a minimum of 15 hours per week.
Must be willing to work at both Peoria and East Peoria campus locations.
Flexible scheduling, including late afternoon/evening availability, may be required based on student demand.
Compensation for the PT Professional Tutor is $17.50- $22.00 an hour.
This position will remain open till filled.

Help students develop independent learning strategies and self-advocacy skills.
Support students in setting academic goals and creating action plans for success.
Provide high-quality one-on-one and small group tutoring to students in assigned subject areas.
Support students in developing academic communication skills, reading comprehension, writing organization, grammar, revision strategies, research practices, and critical thinking.
Assist multilingual learners and English language learners through academic language support and conversation-based learning opportunities.
Facilitate student success workshops focused on study skills, time management, note-taking, test preparation, reading strategies, and other academic success topics.
Help students strengthen independent learning habits rather than completing work for them.
Adapt tutoring approaches to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with varying academic preparedness and language proficiency.
Collaborate with faculty and Academic Support Center staff to align tutoring support with course expectations.
Complete tutoring documentation, appointment notes, and student engagement records in accordance with departmental procedures.
Participate in tutor training, staff meetings, and ongoing professional development.
Serve as a positive ambassador for the Academic Support Center and student success initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
Bachelor’s degree in English, Communication, Education, ESL, Psychology, Humanities, or related field required.
Teaching, tutoring, academic coaching, or student support experience required.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to explain concepts clearly and work effectively with diverse student populations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior enrollment and completion in the selected course.
- Experience as a tutor, teacher, or instructor.
- Experience with Academic Software applications.
- Experience working in an online learning environment.
- Experience working in higher education.
