Summary:
Illinois Central College is seeking a qualified individual to perform specific areas of maintenance to include experience with access controls, hardware, software, and all aspects of our locksmith operation.
Compensation for Skilled Maintenance is $43.79 an hour. This position will remain open until filled.
Essential Functions:

Maintain, operate and install a variety of complex equipment, building structures and building systems by performing complex maintenance tasks in Carpentry and Painting.
Install, replace, disassemble, adjust and maintain all forms of architectural hardware, such as panic bars, locks, cabinet locks, padlocks and pin cores. Repair furniture and file locks and standalone electronic access control systems.
Perform building maintenance, installations, repairs and demolition functions in areas of carpentry, painting, HVAC, plumbing, electrical maintenance and floor coverings.
Install and maintain a variety of complex equipment, building structures and building systems as assigned.
Perform highly detailed painting projects to include recommending product type, estimating project, planning and completion.
Perform various Carpentry, Painting functions such as but not limited to the installation, repair, maintenance or replacement of; drywall/mudding, suspended ceilings, cabinetry, laminates, floor covering, furniture repair, framing, projection screen installations, various other systems and components.
Configure access control database and install related architectural hardware that interfaces with the Colleges access systems. Install electronic access control systems with the use of blueprints, drawings and diagrams.
Cut College keys and maintains key issuance records. Input key records and lock data into computerized database.
Ensure that key issuance information is correct and complete.
Maintains the Illinois Central College Key Policy. Maintain all documentation relating to key issuance and restocking keys.
Conduct general maintenance on doors, restroom fixtures, lighting, outlets not working, requests for areas too hot/ too cold, etc.
Install various floor coverings to include but not limited to carpet tile, rolled carpet, VCT, ceramic and linoleum.
Must be capable of handling a variety of work order requests in a various building maintenance areas carpentry, painting, HVAC, plumbing and electrical maintenance.
Maintain and operate a variety of Carpentry and Painting equipment, building structures and building systems by performing skilled maintenance tasks on which they are knowledgeable.
Perform planned and preventative maintenance tasks as assigned.
Install complex/technical building maintenance equipment and materials as assigned.
Clean equipment and building structures to maintain proper working conditions.
Inspect, test and troubleshoot equipment and building systems.
Document work order information by using methods with the computerized maintenance management system.
Respond and perform emergency repairs and service for proper operations as assigned in building maintenance.
Read and interpret building systems operation and maintenance manuals and blueprint drawings.
Plan materials and tools required to perform the duties assigned.
Provide training in specific areas as assigned.
Perform general construction tasks in building maintenance function areas.
Conduct all work by following safe practices to protect everyone who may be affected by the work being accomplished.
Be responsible for the proper, safe and efficient operations of assigned building equipment, building structure and building systems and related components.
Assume responsibility for conformance to applicable local, state, and federal codes concerning Carpentry and Painting.
Assist other Facilities staff with response to snow removal and emergency tasks as assigned.
Demonstrate knowledge by working independently of others while communicating accurately the status of maintenance and construction conditions; and perform related duties as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
Completion of a college level certificate program or technical apprentice training program.
Three (3) or more years of direct experience as a Journeyman Carpenter.
Theory of operation of building equipment and building systems
Knowledge of Locksmith functions, cutting keys, pinning cylinders and panic hardware.
Knowledge of trades related to building maintenance and repair
Knowledge of a variety of building maintenance procedures and techniques.
Knowledge of equipment, and tools necessary for the maintenance and repair of public buildings.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Ability to read blueprints and assembly instructions.
Ability to follow safety practices and recognizing hazards.
Ability to use hand and power tools.
Satisfy requirements for insurability in operating College vehicles and equipment.
Possess a Valid Class D Illinois driver’s license.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Perform individually assigned work with a minimum of supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
College-level degree in Maintenance Mechanic Technology or any other degree in Building Maintenance/Construction related areas.
