Summary
The Counseling Intern is a temporary position primarily responsible for counseling students in personal, academic and career matters as part of graduate-level training requirements. This position will be located on the East Peoria campus and will be a 25-to-29-hour work week.
As a member of the Division of Student Success at Illinois Central College, the Counseling Services Intern is essential in fostering positive student interactions, enhancing student-centered processes, cultivating a sense of belonging, and collaborating to support student success. Reporting directly to the Director of Counseling Services and focused on providing direct mental health support for students, this position helps to advance departmental and divisional goals while supporting the college’s overall mission and strategic priorities.
Compensation for the PT Intern- Counseling Services is $16.00 an hour.

Essential Functions

Provide individual and group personal counseling and career exploration to students.
Lead psychoeducational workshops, presentations, and programming events to promote mental health and wellbeing education on campus.
Administer and interpret tests and personal inventory assessments.
Consult with parents, faculty and staff relative to student problems in accordance with FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) laws and refer students to appropriate offices or agencies as needed.
Submit clinical documentation and complete mental health-related assessments in Medicat electronic health record.
Attend clinical supervision at least weekly and as required by graduate program.
Assist with committees and meetings that are relevant to the functioning of ICC Counseling Services.
Provide career information, assistance and referrals as necessary.
Facilitate student success by offering personalized support, guiding students to resources, and acknowledging each student's unique story.
Enhance student success by identifying and providing feedback on process improvements and utilizing data as needed to ensure that resources and services effectively meet student needs.
Support student success by collaborating to ensure coordinated efforts in addressing student needs and enhancing overall outcomes.
Advance student success by engaging in ongoing professional development and growth opportunities to stay current with best practices and effectively address evolving student needs.
Participate in assessment interpretation for counselor-taught sections of ICC 111 - Career Choice 8-week sessions
Perform related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
Current enrollment in a graduate-level Counseling or Social Work program, as well as enrollment in a practicum and/or internship course for the August – May regular academic year.
Approval of site selection from relevant faculty, program coordinators, etc. of the enrolled graduate program.
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Knowledge of counseling theories and community resources.
Assist students in obtaining needed support services
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong organizing and prioritizing skills.
Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with others.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in community services, counseling the educationally and financially disadvantaged, and dislocated or laid off workers.
Experience conducting personal development workshop.
