Part-Time Technician - Diesel Powered Equipment

Summary

The Diesel Powered Equipment Technician is primarily responsible for performing tasks to maintain owned and borrowed construction, agricultural, and highway equipment used for instruction, maintain lab equipment so all pieces operate safely, maintain the inventory of tools used during laboratories, and assist faculty members with the fabrication of teaching aids.

Essential Functions

This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Some incumbents may not perform all the duties listed while in other cases related duties may also be assigned.
  1. Organize the tool room and keep and up-to-date inventory of tools and hardware.
  2. Check tools out and in during lab activities.
  3. Move equipment in and out of lab by operating a fork truck or by driving trucks, tractors, or combines or other heavy equipment.
  4. Assist instructors during lab activities to ensure students work safely and professionally.
  5. Support faculty members by securing materials and/or preparing specific equipment for upcoming labs.
  6. Knowledge of safe and proper operation of overhead crane, lifting techniques, and lockout/tag out procedures.
  7. Support instruction with proper use of hand tools, shop equipment, electrical tests, and engine scan tools.
  8. Manage, service, and repair shop tools, supplies and equipment.
  9. Order consumables and other supplies.
  10. Handle pick up of waste materials.
  11. Help organize and order materials for extracurricular activities.
  12. Fabricate stands and tables for training aids.
  13. Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Two years of experience in an automotive diesel environment.
  3. Valid CDL with an acceptable driving record.
  4. Proficient in the operation of a PC and related software.
  5. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  6. Strong multi-tasking and prioritization skills.
  7. Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with others.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Education in accredited diesel program.
  2. Fork truck operator credential.
  3. Metal fabrication experience.
  4. Industry experience in a dealership or production.
  5. Experience working as a diesel mechanic.
