The Associate VP, Platform Engineering Supports development and execution of cloud implementation strategy within organization's existing IT infrastructure. The Associate VP, Cloud Solutions Engineering requires an in-depth understanding of how organization capabilities interrelate across segments and/or enterprise-wide.

The Associate Vice President of Platform Engineering will lead the strategy, delivery, and operational excellence of Humana’s enterprise platform engineering capabilities. This role is responsible for driving innovation, scalability, and resilience across cloud-native platforms and data ecosystems that power enterprise-wide digital transformation. The AVP will oversee platform architecture, engineering practices, vendor partnerships, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure platforms are secure, efficient, and aligned with Humana’s long-term strategic goals.

This position requires a highly technical and collaborative leader with deep experience in cloud technologies, full-stack development, and enterprise-scale platform delivery. The ideal candidate brings a strong track record of building and scaling platforms, managing large engineering organizations, and delivering measurable business value.

  • Technical Leadership:
    Serve as the accountable owner for the health, scalability, and modernization of Humana’s core platform engineering capabilities. Ensure platforms are secure, cost-efficient, and aligned with enterprise architecture and compliance standards.
  • Strategic Execution:
    Define and execute platform strategies that support enterprise data, application, and integration needs. Partner with architecture, security, and business stakeholders to align platform capabilities with long-term goals.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    Build strong partnerships across engineering, product, governance, and business teams. Resolve cross-organizational overlaps and drive unified outcomes that accelerate platform adoption and innovation.
  • Operational Excellence:
    Lead improvements in engineering development practices, including the adoption of AI-assisted tools, DevOps automation, and standardized onboarding. Drive continuous improvement in delivery velocity, reliability, and developer experience.
  • Financial Stewardship:
    Manage a multi-million-dollar budget, including cloud spend and vendor contracts. Deliver measurable cost savings (e.g., $20M+ in cloud optimization) while ensuring platform performance and scalability.
  • Vendor and Ecosystem Engagement:
    Maintain strong relationships with strategic partners including Microsoft, Databricks, Snowflake, DBT, and Prefect. Oversee vendor resource planning, contract negotiations, and joint innovation initiatives.
  • People Leadership:
    Lead and grow a high-performing engineering organization of 100+ associates and contractors. Foster a culture of inclusion, learning, and accountability. Support career development and succession planning.
  • Problem Solving and Incident Management:
    Operate effectively in high-pressure environments, including P0 incident response. Apply architectural thinking and systems-level problem-solving to resolve complex technical and organizational challenges.


Use your skills to make an impact

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in platform engineering, software development, or cloud architecture

  • 8+ years of leadership experience managing large-scale engineering teams and complex programs

  • Proven experience managing $30M+ portfolios and delivering enterprise-scale technology transformations

  • Deep technical expertise in cloud platforms (Azure, GCP), data ecosystems (Databricks, Snowflake, Kafka, DBT, Prefect), and full-stack systems

  • Demonstrated success in driving platform adoption, cost optimization, and engineering maturity

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)

  • Experience operating within highly regulated environments

  • Strong financial acumen and ability to tie technology investments to business outcomes

  • Track record of resolving cross-functional conflicts and aligning teams toward shared goals

  • Familiarity with Humana’s systems, processes, and enterprise architecture is a strong plus

Travel: While this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required.

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.


$208,500 - $286,700 per year


This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
