The new AVP of Quality Engineering will design and lead a new Testing Center of Excellence (CoE) function for Humana. The Testing CoE will provide centralized testing governance for Humana’s IT organization, as well as provide broader, holistic oversight to other BU-dedicated testing functions across the enterprise. Ultimately, the function will be responsible for enabling centralized, end-to-end visibility to Humana test planning and execution, setting testing best practices (e.g., frameworks, automations, processes), and enabling testing performance optimization, all furthering Humana’s alignment to Agile frameworks and technology modernization. This role demands a blend of technical mastery, strategic vision, leadership acumen and healthcare specific regulatory awareness.The Associate VP, Quality Engineering will be responsible for activating the Testing CoE’s efforts, including design of the Testing CoE’s strategic roadmap, priorities, and implementation timelines. While not directly responsible for test execution, the Testing CoE leader will be responsible for ensuring that new standards are aligned to business requirements and Humana strategic priorities. The AVP will also be responsible for guiding organizational changes necessary to enhance Humana’s testing suite, including driving vendor rationalization, enterprise adoption of AI /automations, and driving talent standards / management. Key internal partners in this work are IT and Business testing leaders to drive organizational changes related to driving common testing governance across the enterprise.
Key Responsibilities:
Design the IT Testing CoE’s strategic roadmap, priorities, and implementation timelines, in alignment with Humana’s overall IT strategy; Roadmap should identify opportunities to ensure Humana’s end-to-end testing suites are aligned with Agile best practices and innovative technology applications (e.g., AI applications, automation).
Develop common testing standards (e.g., defect rate thresholds), tooling use-cases (including use of AI / automations), and processes (e.g., test coverage matrix designs), across end-to-end testing activities affecting IT- and BU-focused testers, leveraging existing Humana frameworks where applicable.
Conduct talent evaluations for testing roles across the enterprise, driving efforts to promote continuity in testing role definitions, responsibilities, and alignment to Agile best practices.
Enable centralized visibility (e.g., reporting dashboards) of testing activities across the enterprise via common dashboard tools, standardized metrics reporting (e.g., incidence rates, testing run costs), and ongoing performance evaluations of testing functions.
Enact policies to drive adoption and alignment to common standards. Ongoing collaboration with business-unit leadership to ensure they and their testing teams are equipped to own their respective test suite needs.
Skills
Executive stakeholder engagement, cross-enterprise collaboration, presentation, and communication.
Executive-level strategic thinking, problem-solving, and familiarity with analysis frameworks and approaches (e.g., root-cause analysis, hypothesis-based thinking).
Deep expertise in engineering best practices and standardization across the SDLC.
Agile-aligned expertise that supports rapid iteration and scalability, including familiarity with SAFe or similar frameworks to align testing and agile delivery.
Thought leadership for continuous improvement and enterprise-level testing practice innovation, including deep fluency in AI/ML-driven testing methodologies.

Deep expertise across the following disciplines:
Testing governance best practices, metrics and reporting, and real-time monitoring framework.
Demand, budget & value management, to define and align investments with enterprise and IT priorities.
Enterprise-level test data management and healthcare compliance-aligned data provisioning, including best practices related to HIPAA, HITECH, etc.
Test data interoperability standards, including deep understanding of FHIR, HL7, and integration engines.
Use your skills to make an impact
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field.
10 years of related and deep engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role working with executives and overseeing people-leaders.
Demonstrated success in leading and developing a team of associates.
Expertise in software testing methodologies.
Record of success in leading quality improvement initiatives.
Experience working within a large organization and in IT.
Direct strategic consulting or global delivery experiences
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in a technology field or other post-secondary degree.
CSTE (Certified Software Tester), ISTQB (International Software Testing Qualifications Board), PMP (Project Management Professional), or related certifications.

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.
