The Lead Technology Professional assists in the design, development, and on-going support of IT application solutions to business problems in alignment with business needs and enterprise architecture direction and standards. The Lead Tech Professional work assignments involve moderately complex to complex issues where the analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.

Humana is seeking a Lead Technology Professional that will be responsible for assisting all aspects of design and support for IT systems for the premium billing business area. This includes project estimation and planning, system and interface design, on-going support, and long-term system strategy. The Lead Technology Professional serves as the subject matter expert (SME) for their applications to both IT teammates and the billing business area.

Work directly with business partners to assure that system requirements are well thought out, understood, and achievable.

Lead or assist in efforts to develop work estimates for new systems or enhancements to existing systems.

Assist architects, developers, system support personnel to understand business requirements and assist with developing the technical design approach, ensuring that the design meets the business service level agreements (SLAs) for availability and performance.

Work with other business areas and IT teams to ensure efficient and reliable integration of the billing systems with other Humana IT systems.

Act as Subject Matter Expert for the billing systems to quickly confront major system issues, working as needed with affected IT support and development teams, as well as business teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field
  • 6 or more experience as a senior developer in large IT projects
  • Prior project architect and/or team lead experience
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines with attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and deliver presentations to senior leaders
  • Advanced experience leading special projects and producing metrics, measurements and trend reports
  • Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences.
  • Experience with: SOA design and development, Back-end relational databases and SQL
  • Security Architecture and DevOps
  • Experience in IBM mainframe environment/CA Gen/COBOL/CICS/DB2
  • Experience in DataPower, IIB, Message Broker, WebSphere MQ, zOS connect and API connect
  • Experience with Technologies in use within Humana’s Billing Systems - .Net, C#.
  • Unit testing and mocking up of data
  • Source control use and strategies (ADO and ISPW experience a plus)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field
  • Demonstrated ability to run large scale, highly visible programs with responsibility for multiple project teams
  • Possess a solid understanding of operations, technology, communications and processes
  • Cloud based applications architecture
  • Prior experience in the healthcare industry
  • Prior experience with billing or enrollment systems
  • Knowledge of accounting systems and financial processes & controls.
  • Application architectural diagramming. (Experience with iServer a plus)
  • Six Sigma certification
  • ITIL certification

Work-At-Home Requirements

  • WAH requirements: Must have the ability to provide a high speed DSL or cable modem for a home office. Associates or contractors who live and work from home in the state of California will be provided payment for their internet expense.
  • A minimum standard speed for optimal performance of 25x10 (25mpbs download x 10mpbs upload) is required.
  • Satellite and Wireless Internet service is NOT allowed for this role.
  • A dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information.

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.


$115,300 - $158,600 per year


This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
