This position is responsible for the safe and efficient work of the DP Chemical Operator Assistant duties and the responsibility to conduct job tasks that reflect the highest product quality level possible and for knowing and understanding established procedures and practices at the facility.

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

Performs all work activities in compliance with site safety, environmental, health and security procedures and policies. Controls or operates machinery or equipment to assist with material transfer, production, and other steps within the site production processes. Operates/monitors such equipment as reactors, filters, pumps, compressors, distillation, heaters, etc.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Accepts responsibility for his/her own safety and health. Performs assigned duties in a manner that is safe and protective of the environment. Follows operating procedures to ensure a safe and environmentally protective workplace. Observes and reports all incidents and unsafe conditions. Takes an active interest in improving safety and the environmental protection.
  • Process/equipment and areas of operating responsibility
    • Building steam, water, nitrogen, compressed air processing and control systems used to maintain or operate process equipment or not otherwise covered under other job descriptions.
    • Building equipment MCC’s and other equipment de-energizing locations
    • General building equipment not covered under other job descriptions such as heating/air conditioning, electrical outlets, lighting, powered cleaning tools, fork lifts, etc.
    • General building dumpsters, trash containers and designated waste material management receptacles
    • General building safety equipment not covered under other job descriptions process areas such as fire extinguishers, safety showers, hand alarms, exit signs, evacuation alarms, absorbent rolls, etc.
    • Other building equipment not covered under other job descriptions used to supplement or assist tasks such as lifting devices, material storage areas, forklifts, pallet jacks, etc.
    • Building drum Melter and associated process and control systems
    • Building drum recovery and filling station equipment
    • Building hose stations and fire water protection systems
  • Inventories and orders designated building supplies
  • Hazardous Waste Responsibility
  • Areas of housekeeping, sanitation responsibility
    • Building control rooms, restrooms, and break rooms
    • Drum dumping, filling and handling equipment and surrounding equipment operations area access aisles
    • Building ingress/egress, emergency exits and primary building traffic aisles
    • Building platforms, stairways, ladders and walkways to access and/or operate assigned equipment
    • Equipment storage areas and/or locations
    • Building trench and drain systems
    • Building area roadways
    • Building non-process areas not covered in other job descriptions
    • DP Office garage storage area
  • Complete building equipment non-process safety inspections
  • Monitors and coordinates building waste recovery and disposal activities
  • Performs designated documentation and transaction reporting
  • Inventories and orders designated building supplies
  • Performs routine semi-skilled equipment maintenance tasks and/or assisting maintenance personnel on equipment repairs
  • Cleans and prepares equipment for maintenance
  • Ability to use tools and equipment required to perform essential functions of the job
  • Proper relief or appropriate communication
  • Instructs, trains, and assists other Chemical Operators.
  • Efficient management of time and resources to meet production and maintenance scheduled and daily goals
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by production management.

REQUIREMENTS

  • High-school education or equivalent; vocational training or job-related course work preferred
  • 2+ years’ experience in industrial manufacturing setting OR relevant work experience in industrial chemical plant
  • Safety training or emergency response experience preferred
  • Ability to understand and be able to operate a personal computer and associated software systems
  • Ability to manage time and determine priorities in order to meet daily plant requirements
  • Ability to understand and carry out routine verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Physical mobility and agility required, for example climbing stairs, climbing ladders, working off scaffolding, prolonged stooping, stretching, and bending and confined space entry.
  • Requires working in a rotating shift environment including weekends and holidays.
  • Requires adequate physical strength to preform the essential job tasks (for example: ability to lift 50 lbs. without mechanical assistance.)
  • Requires working outdoors with frequent exposure to weather and temperature extremes.
  • Exposure to prolonged physical activity (for example: 12 hour shifts).
  • Sensory facilities needed to safely perform the job duties that allow a person to react to potential or immediate hazardous conditions and to take appropriate action.
  • Ability to wear required PPE such as respiratory protection, safety harness, and full protection suit as well as common protective or safety equipment including but not limited to safety shoes, eye protection, hand protection, hearing protection, hard hats, etc.
