TEMPORARY MAINTENANCE WORKER (End of October through March)
DEPARTMENT: PUBLIC WORKS / STREETS & SEWERS DIVISION
LOCATION: 3505 DRIES LANE, PEORIA, ILLINOIS
HOURS: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. – Will work 8 hours per day for the first two weeks for training and beginning in November will work a minimum of two days a week - Additional work involving snow plowing and removal will be required and done on an “as needed” basis. Must be available for snow plowing call-out on short notice.
To assist with snow removal operations and general street maintenance during the winter season. This is manual labor work requiring considerable physical strength and endurance. - Examples of Duties
Knowledge of common practices, methods and materials used in maintenance and construction work. Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods; use hand and mechanical tools and equipment, such as jackhammers and concrete saws, and to develop skill in operation to which assigned; coordinate hand and eye movements to complete assignments/projects; establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and other City employees; understand and follow oral and written instructions; operate trucks requiring CDL licensing; operate/learn to operate heavy equipment in the maintenance of streets, alleys, and sewers and standard practices. Ability to use sound judgment in estimating time, materials, viscosity, and traffic conditions; to interpret blueprints and layouts; to properly and safely mix highly toxic chemical thinners; to perform duties under hazardous conditions in heavy traffic; to supervise semi-skilled and unskilled workers; and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and other City employees. Skill in the preparation, use, cleaning and maintaining machines and equipment.
- Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or GED, must possess class CDL B license or above by date of hire. Ability to read and write and some experience in semi-skilled construction work. Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job considered.
