- Announcing an Examination Cycle for placement into the City of PeoriaJanuary 2024 Police Eligibility Pool.Salary : $67,594.39 ($69,283.82 after certified training)
APPLICATION DEADLINE: Applications must be received by 5:00 p.m., Friday, September 1, 2023.Application must include the following:
1. Photocopy of Driver's License.2. Photocopy of Birth Certificate. NOTE: This should be a copy of the registered (or certified) birth certificate, which is on file at the courthouse in the county of birth. The hospital certificate (with the footprints of the newborn) is NOT an acceptable document.3. Photocopy of High School Diploma OR High School Transcript OR GED Certificate. You only need to submit one copy out of the three. (You still need to submit a copy of your High School Diploma, High School Transcript or GED Certificate even if you have received a college degree.)

5. When taking the online test, please make sure to take the assessment at the beginning of the examination. Your test will not be scored unless this section and the rest of the test is completed.Upon completion of your scheduled exam, scores are automatically forwarded to the City of Peoria. Candidates who attain a passing score on the entry level exam will be placed on the City of Peoria's eligibility list. 5. Make sure to complete the assessment part of the testing process. The test can not be graded unless this assessment and all other components of the test are completed.Upon completion of your scheduled exam, scores are automatically forwarded to the City of Peoria. Candidates who attain a passing score on the entry level exam will be placed on the City of Peoria's eligibility list. The City of Peoria will contact candidates on the list and will invite them to participate in further stages of the selection process.
Candidates who pass the written examination will be notified by email their score. All candidates will get a date and time to report for the POWER Test.
We are no longer giving the Physical Ability Exam. It is being replaced by the POWER test, which will be given by the Police Department. Even though you take the POWER test now, if hired, you will take the test at the Police Academy.

Please notify the Human Resources Department in advance of the testing process if accommodations are required.
Also, the Police Department will be offering the opportunity to participate in Mock Interviews after you have been admitted to the Eligibility Pool. This is not mandatory, but would be a great opportunity to practice your interviewing skills. The mock interviews will take place the week of September 18th. More details to follow.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
Age: Must be 21 years of age by date of the last written exam (5/06/2023); or 20 years of age for applicants who have successfully completed 2 years of law enforcement studies at an accredited college or university. By State Statute, you cannot have attained age 35 when the application is submitted. (Exceptions made for individuals with prior municipal police experience. Contact the Human Resources Department for additional information).
Education: Graduation from high school or GED equivalent minimum to apply; Applicants with an associate degree or credit hours towards a bachelor’s degree is a plus.
Military: A Veteran shall be allowed to exceed the maximum age provision by the number of years served on active military duty, but by no more than 10 years of active military duty. (45 years old) You would need to submit a Form DD214.Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen or qualified Alien.Driver's License: Must possess a valid driver's license.Record: Must agree to be fingerprinted and found not to have been convicted of a felony or certain misdemeanors as listed in Illinois State Statutes.
Vision: Applicants must meet minimum standards for vision and hearing. Applicants who wear glasses or contact lenses must meet minimum standards of visual acuity. Vision with corrective (glasses or contact lenses) lenses should not be less than 20/20 in the better eye, 20/40 in the worst eye, and 20/20 with both eyes open. Uncorrected (no glasses or contact lenses) vision is 20/40 and should not be 20/200 or worse with either eye.
Residency: Applicants need not be City residents to apply. When hired, employee shall establish and maintain their principal place of residence within a twenty (20) mile radius of the Peoria Police Department and shall not be subject to any forfeiture of the annual base salary.Physical Requirements: Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position and pass the POWER test for entry into the pool. Candidates who are hired must pass the physical fitness entrance requirement of the Police Training Institute (Peace Officer Wellness Evaluation Report) P.O.W.E.R. Test.Examinations: Must pass written and POWER exams for placement into the Eligibility Pool. If selected for hire, must pass background investigation, oral interviews, polygraph, psychological and medical examinations including a drug screen prior to hire.

FINAL PROCEDURES
Applicants who meet all the minimum eligibility requirements and who pass the written and POWER examinations will have their names placed in the Police Recruit Eligibility Pool, in alphabetical order, and will be eligible for hire until the pool expires. Candidates who are being considered for hire will also be required to participate in and pass a departmental interview and a Fire and Police Commission interview. A panel of the Fire and Police Commissioners will conduct an oral interview with the candidates screened into the process after the departmental interview. After the Police department and Fire and Police Commission oral interviews
scores are composed, the candidate may have added to the composite score five (5) points if they have established residence in the City of Peoria. This is a rank ordered list of candidates to be hired as positions become available. When this list is exhausted, interviews will be conducted again by the department and the Fire and Police Commission, and another hire eligibility list will be made. When the applicants are given an offer of employment, they will then be required to pass a polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, a medical examination including a drug screen and an extensive background investigation. The offer of employment is conditional upon passing all of the required testing and will be withdrawn if you fail a test.
Once you are in the pool, you must send in, if applicable, a copy of your college diploma and/or transcripts and any other certificates, letters, etc., you want to submit to show your qualifications. Also, send in a photocopy of your DD214 Form -- If you are a veteran or are currently serving in the U.S. Military. If you are a current Officer, send in your Law Enforcement training certificate.
