The City of East Peoria is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Water Laborer Driver at their Public Works facility.

This union position plays a vital role in maintaining and rehabilitating the City’s water distribution system. Candidates must possess a Class D or higher water operator license at the time of hire or be able to successfully obtain a Class D license within six (6) months of assuming the position. Applicants are expected to have extensive knowledge of the laws and regulations governing the management of safe drinking water.

Primary responsibilities include installing new sections of water mains, locating and repairing leaks or breaks in piping, and addressing issues related to water and sewer service calls. Additional service duties involve investigating customer concerns, gathering billing survey information, performing meter readings, and initiating or terminating water and sewer services. Strong customer service and communication skills are essential for success in this role.

Applicants are required to reside within twenty-five (25) miles of the East Peoria corporate limits, hold a valid Class B CDL with air brake endorsement at the time of application, and successfully complete a physical examination, drug screening, and comprehensive background check.

This is a full-time non-exempt position with starting pay rate of $32.19 per hour. Per union contract, starting rate is $7.00/hour below base. After one year of service, pay increases to $5.00/hour below base, and after two years to $3.00/hour below base. Full base is achieved after 3 years of service. Progression placement may be adjusted at the time of hire or at the completion of probationary period based on the candidate’s experience and/or commensurate related experience, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
