The City of East Peoria is accepting resumes for a full-time Maintenance HVAC Technician I in the Facility Maintenance Department. This position performs preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of HVAC systems and related mechanical, electrical, and building equipment across City facilities. Responsibilities include maintaining HVAC and Building Automation Systems (BAS), performing electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general building maintenance, and documenting work performed, materials used, and identified deficiencies. The role requires strong mechanical aptitude, effective diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, and proficiency with preventive maintenance scheduling and documentation.

The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities, experience with complex commercial building systems, and the ability to work independently. Additional duties include interpreting blueprints and technical drawings, responding to equipment issues, performing inspections, assisting with remodelling projects, and working at heights up to 40 feet using ladders or lifts. Candidates must be proficient in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general building maintenance, and demonstrate strong organizational, recordkeeping, and communication skills. Safe operation of hand and power tools, the ability to work in varying environments, and availability for after-hours emergencies are essential.

Minimum qualifications of applicants include a high school diploma or equivalent, at least five (5) years of related experience, EPA Section 608 Technician Certification, and HVAC certification through an apprenticeship or technical training program. Applicants must hold a valid Illinois driver’s license and live within twenty-five (25) miles of the City’s corporate limits. The role requires availability for holidays, weekends, and emergency callouts.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination, including a functional capacity/lift assessment, a pre-employment background check, and a pre-employment drug screening in accordance with City policy.

Pay range for this position is $33.00-$37.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience (DOQE). This is a full-time, non-exempt position offering a comprehensive benefits package.
