The Mapleton Foundry is one of the largest in the United States and home to the largest core making machine in the world! Working at the foundry is hard work that demands focus and safety, quality, and commitment to helping our customers build a better world.

With over 800 employees at the foundry, we are looking for someone who can support process development projects for the continuous improvement of the safety, quality, velocity and cost of manufacturing.

Role Description:

Provides technical expertise necessary to design all aspects of production, costs, quality, compliance to safety guidelines, and environmental requirements for manufacturing.

What you will do:

  • Identifying and implementing enhancements and modifications to complex manufacturing operations equipment and processes.
  • Monitoring sophisticated equipment and process reliability; identifying and addressing problem areas.
  • Support day-to-day operations process of melting department.
  • Continuous process improvement projects implementing automation.
  • Support operations continuous improvement (CI cards) to achieve safety goals, capacity requirements, product cost and quality commitments.
  • The position manages the completion of its own work assignments and coordinates work with others.
  • This position will run capital projects for new equipment installations.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Degree or equivalent experience desired

Skills you will have:

  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Working knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
  • Engineering - MFG: Working knowledge of processes, techniques and methods of engineering in a manufacturing environment; ability to design and implement materials, structures, machines, devices, systems and processes that safely realize a desired objective or invention.
  • Process Automation: Working knowledge of techniques and processes of process automation; ability to develop and deploy solutions in various industries.
  • Manufacturing Process Design and Development: Working knowledge of how to develop or design a manufacturing process; ability to establish and determine which processes and parameters should be opted to improve functionality and costs.
  • Change Control - MFG: Working knowledge of the processes and procedures by which a change is identified, evaluated, approved, monitored and documented; ability to manage changes in the production environment and processes effectively.

Top candidates will possess:

  • Equipment automation and controls experience.
  • Six Sigma problem solving methodology
  • Degree in Electrical engineering or material science
  • Channel and coreless melting experience
  • Induction melting experience

Summary Pay Range:

$97,530.00 - $146,290.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
