In this role, you’ll help shape how we build and deliver embedded applications for Caterpillar’s Linux based on-board Info/Domain ECUs. You will help develop embedded applications that support latest technological features on Caterpillar machines. You will help establish shared build infrastructure for the embedded controllers. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you’ll drive improvements and standardization in application configuration, testing infrastructure, CI/CD/CT practices, and engineering visibility across the organization.

What You Will Do:

• Help develop applications using C++ for various Caterpillar Technology Platform Features.

• Partner with platform, middleware, and application teams to design and implement a standardized, scalable build process for Linux based embedded applications.

• Enhance build tools and processes that enable consistent, high-quality application configurations across the enterprise.

• Work cross functionally to perform application readiness and checkout activities prior to deployment, ensuring reliability and performance.

• Collaborate with system teams to identify and close gaps in the embedded/Linux software development toolchain, including requirements management, builds, CI/CD pipelines, and test automation.

• Collaborate with technology and tools organizations to create new workflows, continuously improve existing processes.

• Provide clear, proactive communication on project status, risks, and timelines to technical and business stakeholders.

What You Will Have:

• Requirements Analysis: Proficiency in requirements analysis tools and techniques; ability to gather, assess, and document requirements for successful system or software projects.

• Analytical Thinking: Understanding and using methods and resources that support thorough analysis; ability to identify the underlying causes of technical issues and develop different solutions to address them.

• Software Development: Knowledge of software design and development tools and activities; ability to produce software products or systems in line with product requirements for embedded applications. Mentor and guide engineering teams, providing technical leadership on complex development efforts.

• Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools, and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, applications, or operations.

• Effective Communication: Ability to clearly convey and interpret information using appropriate communication methods, tools, and techniques.

Top Candidates Will Have:

• Degree from an accredited program in Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering.

• Principal/Staff engineer level of proficiency in programming languages like C, C++ and other object-oriented languages.

• Skilled in using software development tools including, but not limited to: Ubuntu, Git, Artifactory, and Python.

• Exposure to CI/CD systems (GitLab, Jenkins, etc.) • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools.

• Demonstrated experience in Linux based software development.

• Proficiency in programming languages like C, C++ and other object-oriented languages. • Proficiency in testing framework like Google test.

• Strong scripting capabilities (Python, Bash) and debugging skills. • Ability to work independently and collaborate across embedded, validation, and systems engineering teams.

Additional Details:

• This position requires the candidate to work full-time at the Mossville, IL office. • Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.

Summary Pay Range:

$128,470.00 - $192,710.00
