Large Power Systems Division (LPSD) is a fast-paced, innovative, and growing global organization. This organization provides exciting opportunities for accountants who want to be challenged and are interested in being directly involved with product business decisions. This open position is an Accounting Manager on the LPSD Consolidations Team. The role will lead and provide support to LPSD’s Large Engines business.

Role Definition

Caterpillar is seeking a Senior Accounting Manager in Mossville, IL or Lafayette, IN. In this role, you will lead the financial planning & analysis activities for the Large Power Systems Division Large Engines business, as well as acting as a trusted business advisor to LPSD leadership.

What You Will Do

  • Lead a small team conducting the financial planning, forecasting, and budgeting activities to support business decision-making.
  • Act as a trusted business partner, translating financial results into meaningful business insights that influence product, operational, and strategic decisions.
  • Drive process transformation and continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to simplify, standardize, and automate FP&A and reporting processes.
  • Prepare and present executive‑level financial materials, including variance explanations, outlook updates, and strategic analyses.
  • Collaborate with business partners and peers to identify issues and improvement opportunities.

What You Will Have

  • Planning: Tactical, Strategic: Knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan.
  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Judgment and Decision Making: Knowledge of the decision-making process; ability to carefully evaluate the impact of emerging business situations and choose the best path forward communicating actions and activities that maximize organizational performance.
  • Managing People: Knowledge of processes involved in managing people; ability to lead successful teams, and diligently address issues related to performance and conflicts at the workplace.
  • Financial Analysis: Knowledge of tools and approaches of financial analysis; ability to read, interpret and draw accurate conclusions from financial and numerical material.
  • Financial Reporting: Knowledge of processes, methods, and tools of financial reporting; ability to create and maintain accurate and thorough financial reports.

What sets you apart

  • 7–10 years of progressive experience in Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), accounting, or related finance roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across functions and teams.
  • Prior leadership or people‑management experience, including coaching, mentoring, or project leadership.
  • Experience with OneStream or similar enterprise planning and consolidation systems.
  • Finance experience supporting a manufacturing or industrial environment.

Summary Pay Range:

$147,760.00 - $221,640.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
