Job Summary:

Caterpillar Autonomy and Automation products bring value to our customers through the effective utilization of people, process, and technology. We are a small team with the opportunity to make a big impact. We are looking for an Autonomy Technology Strategist to join our team of experts in developing cutting-edge autonomous and operator assist systems. You will be responsible for defining the needs of our business, providing technical leadership on complex robotic software and system development. We have a fabulous team that does some of the most exciting work at Caterpillar, and we can’t wait for you to join the team!!

What You Will Do:

  • Provide technical guidance and leadership across many different autonomy and automation development domains, including perception, planning, positioning as well as onboard/ offboard interactions and site level system design.

  • Leverage lessons learned in today’s systems to develop strategies for Caterpillar and our customers to smoothly transition to the next generation systems.

  • Collaborate with the Caterpillar technical and commercial communities, as well as our end customers, to define solutions that meet both Caterpillar’s and our customer’s needs.

  • Contribute to the design and development of new Caterpillar products that deliver value to our customers while seamlessly integrating into the broader portfolio of Caterpillar Autonomy and Automation products.

Education requirement:

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Robotics, or related field.

What skills you will have:

Communicating Complex Concepts

  • Work with a global team to communicate the Why’s and develop the How’s of agreed site level solutions.

  • Clearly communicate designs and tradeoffs with stakeholders and internal and external suppliers at multiple levels.

  • Mentor and train other engineers to help grow the overall organizational skill set.

Technical Excellence:

  • Proven ability to work on production autonomous or operator assist products through design, development, validation, customer rollout, and support.

  • Ability to decompose complex customer requirements into achievable technical requirements for the systems that make up a whole site level product.

  • Knowledge and experience with Autonomous Systems, preferably a Cat Command system such as Command for Hauling and Dozing, or other centralized control system architectures which can be drawn upon for design proposals and decisions.

  • Technical leadership skills are essential to the position. The role’s focus is strongly technical, but some project management skills are also required.

  • Keep up to date with the fast-paced autonomy industry and pertinent technologies to help decide which technologies are ready for deployment.

  • Familiarity with current Caterpillar back-office systems including MineStar and the communication between the office and onboard systems.

Strategic Thinking:

  • Creates a strategic vision and execution plan that migrates our current production systems and customers to next generation products.

  • Design concept solutions that solve not only the problem at hand, but also considers use cases and applicability to other problems and systems.

  • Ability to prioritize customer requests, technical needs and development timelines to maximize customer value and Caterpillar business needs.

  • The location for this position is Mossville, IL
  • Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.
  • This position will require less than 15% travel.

Summary Pay Range:

$159,120.00 - $258,570.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
