Role Definition
In this role as a Control Systems Senior Engineer, you will have the responsibility for working on multiple projects in the Cat Technology’s Machine Technology Platform Group. These projects will typically include evaluating new technologies, incorporating process improvements, or a variety of other initiatives related to subsystems on current and future Caterpillar machines. This individual will play a role in building innovative and scalable solutions that enable seamless data flow between onboard and offboard systems.

Responsibilities

  • Gather and analyze user/client requirements to create the software specifications for components and subsystems used across several products.
  • Drive design consistency across products.
  • Participate in software architecture discussions and engage appropriate SMEs to effectively resolve technical issues.
  • Guide projects through the planning, development and validation process.
  • Oversee project progress and costs; communicate status with stakeholders and participating functional areas; addressing and resolving problems.
  • Communicate with internal customers and managing expectations; ensuring effective use of project controls and reporting mechanisms.
  • Keep up with industry trends and new technology breakthroughs by continuous learning.
  • Build dashboards providing visibility into software quality, validation progress, and development maturity

Skill Descriptors

  • Embedded Systems: Knowledge of embedded systems and their applications; ability to develop embedded systems with varying levels of complexity to control the operations of the machine it is embedded within.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation.
  • Communicating Complex Concepts: Knowledge of effective presentation tools and techniques to ensure clear understanding; ability to use summarization and simplification techniques to explain complex technical concepts in simple, clear language appropriate to the audience.
  • Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Requirements Analysis: Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.

Top Candidates Will Have:

  • Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering or Computer Science curriculum or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of software development life cycle
  • Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems using RTOS or embedded Linux.
  • Strong scripting capabilities (Python, Bash)
  • Familiarity with requirements tools (DOORS, Jama, or similar)
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools.

Summary Pay Range:

$112,710.00 - $169,060.00
