Caterpillar’s Earth Moving division is hiring for Sr. Engineering Project Team Lead for their Medium Tractor Products (MTP) team in Peoria, IL.

Role Summary:

This role provides engineering technical leadership for the D6 tractor model. You will lead end‑to‑end product development and cross‑functional execution to deliver a high‑performing, reliable, and competitive machine to market. You also own the engineering integrity, lifecycle health, and global production support needed to ensure the D6 meets customer expectations throughout its entire life. This role provides the opportunity to influence the D6 product strategy, technical vision, and long‑term roadmap.

What You’ll Do (Job Duties)

  • Lead end‑to‑end product development, from concept through validation, using Lean Product and Process Development (LPPD), New Product Introduction (NPI), and Concurrent Product and Process Development (CPPD) methodologies.
  • Lead cross-functional teams and collaborate across the organization to ensure effective product development and a strong D6 product to the market.
  • Own tractor-level technical specifications and ensuring strong engineering rigor across design, analysis, and testing.
  • Drive program execution to meet performance, reliability, durability, cost, and schedule targets for the D6 and associated NPI programs.
  • Lead product health and continuous improvement, including lifecycle support and quality improvements for both legacy and current D6 models.
  • Partner with global manufacturing operations to enable smooth production ramp‑up and ongoing build quality across worldwide facilities.
  • Own accountability for model specific product cost and work to achieve line of sight to LCP cost targets at each facility.
  • Influence product strategy and vision for the D6 and related tractor systems, guiding the direction of current and future MTP programs.

What You Have (Core Skills)

  • Degree Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related fields.
  • Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
  • Influencing Through Expertise: Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to use these to deepen own expertise and impact or challenge decisions within and outside own organization.
  • Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.
  • Team Management: Knowledge of effective team building techniques; ability to form and manage effective teams.
  • Requirements Analysis: Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.
  • Product Design and Development: Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.

Top Candidates Will Also Have

  • Proven ability to foster a highly collaborative, inclusive team culture and navigate complex issues.
  • Strong understanding of Caterpillar’s NPI process.
  • Proficiency in key engineering systems such as TeamCenter, HVC, PPRD, my‑NPI, and Vis‑View.
  • Solid knowledge of engineering design, check, and release workflow process.
  • Experience with LPPD, and working knowledge of LPPD practices, FEA, and FMEA methods.
  • Practical machine operation experience.
  • Track‑type tractor test experience.
  • Track-type tractor system design experience.
  • Demonstrated business acumen, including cost, pricing, margins, OPACC, and NPV analysis.
  • Familiarity with machine‑level service activities, the Caterpillar dealer network, and SIS Web.

  • This position requires 5 days per week in the office (M-F)

Summary Pay Range:

$147,760.00 - $221,640.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
