This position is part of Caterpillars Network Global WAN (Wide area network) team supporting over hundreds of facilities around the world. Your primary role will span between production support and as well as an implementor for new WAN connectivity for Caterpillar facilities, suppliers, dealers, and various cloud providers. This is a great opportunity to work on various WAN technologies, including traditional Cisco IOS based routers, Silver Peak SDWAN Unity Edge Connect routers, as well as Cisco/Silver Peak Cloud based solutions.
What You Will Do:
- Support global WAN connectivity across Caterpillar facilities, dealers, suppliers, and business partners, ensuring stable and secure network operations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production WAN incidents, including participation in off‑shift and weekend support as part of a global rotation.
- Serve as a primary implementer for new WAN connections, including new facility circuits, dealer connections, supplier integrations, and partner networks.
- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Cisco IOS and Silver Peak SD‑WAN devices for sites and datacenters, including circuit testing, bandwidth turn‑ups, and design adjustments.
- Collaborate with telecommunications vendors to install and activate new WAN circuits.
- Work with cloud providers and internal cloud teams to design and implement cloud connectivity solutions.
- Assist in WAN design and configuration changes under the guidance of senior staff while independently managing complex, multi‑component infrastructure projects.
- Perform security monitoring, log analysis, and vulnerability triage; implement mitigation actions where possible.
- Support software upgrades for Cisco IOS, Silver Peak edge devices, and orchestrator platforms.
- Manage QoS, underlay/overlay routing, and egress configurations to optimize network performance.
What You Have:
- WAN & SD‑WAN Expertise: Strong understanding of Cisco WAN and/or Silver Peak SD‑WAN configuration, troubleshooting, and implementation.
- Network Troubleshooting: Ability to diagnose and resolve complex production issues across circuits, routing, and device configurations.
- Vendor & Partner Collaboration: Experience working with telecom providers, cloud teams, and cross‑functional technical groups.
- Security & Monitoring: Familiarity with vulnerability management, log analysis, and network security best practices.
- Independent Technical Execution: Ability to work with minimal supervision, manage multiple priorities, and support off‑shift operational needs.
Top Candidates Will Have:
- A relevant degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience supporting WAN network technologies.
- Hands‑on experience with Cisco WAN technologies and/or certifications in the WAN or routing/switching space.
- Experience configuring and supporting Silver Peak SD‑WAN hardware and software.
- Background working with telecommunications vendors to install and configure new WAN circuits.
- Experience with routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF.
- Experience configuring DMVPN or VPN connections on Cisco routers.
- Familiarity with Cisco or Silver Peak cloud‑based networking solutions.
- Proficiency in Python or other scripting languages to support automation and operational efficiency.

Summary Pay Range:
$89,210.00 - $133,810.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
