Job Summary:
The Integrated Components Division (ICD) is one of Caterpillar’s most innovative divisions. In ICD, as across Caterpillar, our priority is our customers and helping them build a better world. Our components (Undercarriage, Ground Engaging Tools, Hose & Coupling, Fluids & Filters, Seals, Tubes & Hardware) are essential to differentiating our prime products, enhancing performance, quality, and safety from the inside out. They are also built with the aftermarket in mind, ensuring reliable service and performance wherever our customers operate.
As a Built-In Quality (BIQ) Lead, you will champion Caterpillar’s BIQ principles by embedding quality into every stage of the product lifecycle. You will work closely with component design teams, manufacturing operations, suppliers, and machine development groups to ensure robust processes and defect-free products. This role focuses on driving proactive quality improvements, implementing BIQ standards, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement across ICD.
What You Will Do:
- Lead BIQ implementation for assigned components and processes, ensuring adherence to Caterpillar’s quality standards.
- Facilitate cross-functional teams to identify and eliminate sources of defects through proactive controls and error-proofing.
- Conduct BIQ audits and assessments, driving corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Utilize Six Sigma and Lean methodologies to analyze quality data, identify trends, and implement sustainable solutions.
- Collaborate with design engineering, manufacturing, and supplier quality teams to integrate BIQ principles into new product introduction (NPI) and existing product lines.
- Set up and lead cross division governance and collaboration.
- Escalate obstacles to timely execution and ensure alignment with business and corporate quality objectives.
Education requirement:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science.
What skills you will have:
Analytical Thinking: Analyze complex quality and performance data using Excel, Power BI, and statistical tools. Apply root cause analysis (5 Whys, Fishbone) to resolve recurring issues. Visualize data to communicate insights and drive decisions across engineering and manufacturing. Leverage operations quality and manufacturing engineering experience to improve production processes.
Problem Solving: Resolve product quality issues using DMAIC, 8D, and A3 methodologies. Anticipate design and production failures and implement corrective and preventive actions. Address challenges from field performance to supplier quality using cross-functional expertise in product service and machine systems integration.
Process Improvement: Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality, manufacturability, and cost efficiency. Identify optimization opportunities in production and quality control processes. Apply Lean and Six Sigma principles to reduce waste and improve cycle times. Utilize Six Sigma Black Belt certification and operations experience to deliver impactful projects.
Project Management: Manage cross-functional projects to improve product performance and reduce warranty claims. Plan and execute initiatives using project management tools, ensuring timely delivery and resource alignment. Coordinate with engineering, supply chain, and quality teams to achieve milestones and measurable results.
Interpersonal Relationships: Collaborate with design, manufacturing, supplier quality, and field service teams. Build trust and foster open communication to align stakeholders on improvement goals. Lead teams, facilitate consensus, and drive accountability for quality outcomes. Apply Built-In Quality (BIQ) principles to coach teams toward a proactive quality culture.
Top candidates will also have:
- Knowledge of Six Sigma DMAIC methodology and its application to manufacturing and quality processes.
- Experience in Manufacturing Operations.
- Experience in Machine Systems Integration design.
- Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) processes.
- Proficiency with project management tools & techniques.
Additional Information:
This position requires the candidate to work onsite five days a week at the Mossville, IL office.
Domestic relocation assistance is NOT available for this position.

This position may require up to 25 - 50% travel. Primary locations will be North and South America.

Summary Pay Range:
$110,520.00 - $165,840.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
