Job Summary:
The Logistics Manager is responsible for leading global logistics operations to ensure efficient, cost-effective, and compliant movement of materials and products across Caterpillar’s manufacturing network. This role develops and executes logistics strategies that optimize transportation, supplier performance, and inventory flow while maintaining alignment with corporate objectives and regulatory requirements. The manager leverages analytical insights, strong decision-making skills, and cross-functional collaboration to drive continuous improvement and mitigate risks in a dynamic global supply chain environment.
What You Will Do:
- Analyzing and developing logistics plans that affect production, distribution, and inventory specific to area of responsibility.
- Oversee logistics employees, and ensure team stays fully staffed to be able to support the factory.
- Improving logistics processes through process improvement, prioritization, and project planning.
- Track costs and savings for areas within logistics and push for savings and/or efficiency where possible.
Education requirement:
- Candidates should possess a degree or demonstrate equivalent knowledge through professional expertise
What skills you will have:
Decision Making and Critical Thinking:
- Apply advanced knowledge of global logistics principles to analyze complex scenarios and select optimal solutions under time constraints.
- Use proficiency in cost modeling and operational trade-offs to evaluate decisions balancing cost, speed, and quality.
- Interpret KPIs and supply chain analytics to guide strategic decisions across multiple regions.
- Leverage expertise in risk management frameworks to make informed decisions during disruptions (e.g., port delays, customs issues).
- Ensure decisions comply with corporate standards, safety regulations, and sustainability goals through strong regulatory knowledge.
Supplier Management:
- Utilize deep understanding of supplier performance metrics to negotiate contracts and service-level agreements effectively.
- Apply knowledge of global sourcing strategies to monitor supplier performance and implement corrective actions.
- Build long-term supplier relationships using advanced skills in cost optimization and reliability assurance.
- Manage multi-tier supply chains leveraging expertise in capacity planning, lead time analysis, and quality control.
- Oversee onboarding and compliance processes with strong knowledge of international trade regulations and Caterpillar standards.
Transportation – MFG:
- Apply advanced knowledge of transportation modes and logistics networks to manage inbound and outbound freight for manufacturing operations.
- Use expertise in route optimization and freight cost analysis to select transportation modes balancing cost and delivery timelines.
- Implement and optimize Transportation Management Systems (TMS) leveraging technical knowledge of system integration and analytics.
- Resolve transportation issues using strong understanding of customs clearance processes and global capacity constraints.
Analytical Thinking:
- Use advanced proficiency in data analytics tools (Excel, Power BI, SAP) to identify trends and drive logistics efficiency improvements.
- Apply knowledge of cost modeling and forecasting techniques to predict transportation spending and support budgeting.
- Analyze inventory levels and lead times using supply chain optimization principles to improve flow and reduce bottlenecks.
- Perform root cause analysis leveraging problem-solving frameworks and implementing corrective actions for systemic issues.
- Develop KPIs and dashboards using strong understanding of performance measurement and continuous improvement methodologies.
Additional Information:
This position requires the candidate to work onsite five days a week at the Mapleton, IL office.
Domestic relocation assistance is NOT available for this position.

Summary Pay Range:
$95,640.00 - $143,520.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
