Job Summary:

As a Manager Manufacturing Engineering, you will lead teams supporting operations and manufacturing processes, tooling and tool design, and equipment needed to successfully and economically produce assigned parts/products in accordance with engineering specifications. We are looking for a dynamic, organized self-starter to join our Integrated Components Division as a Manager Manufacturing Engineering in Mapleton, IL. You will be part of promoting Caterpillar’s values including a safety driven environment.

What You Will Do:

  • Oversee manufacturing engineering teams and develop/train the personnel that perform and support the plant operating functions.
  • Lead tool design, assembly, manufacturing processing, cost estimating, systems planning, layout, standards, releasing, etc.
  • Manage development, implementation and continual improvement of the operating methods, equipment, systems and other operating infrastructure used to realize operating goals and objectives.
  • Lead the installation of new machines and equipment and process changes to provide the most efficient and economical manufacture or assembly of quality parts.

Education requirement:

  • Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or demonstrate equivalent knowledge through professional expertise.

What skills you will have:

Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Demonstrates the ability to assess complex manufacturing and maintenance challenges, analyze root causes, and make informed decisions that enhance safety, quality, and operational efficiency. Apply structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, DMAIC, and FMEA to both production and maintenance scenarios. Leverages maintenance management knowledge to prioritize repairs, plan preventive strategies, and minimize equipment downtime while supporting overall manufacturing goals.

Judgment and Decision Making: Strong understanding of how operational decisions impact cost, throughput, and long-term performance. Able to evaluate trade-offs in manufacturing strategies and communicate clear, data-driven recommendations to cross-functional teams and leadership.

Capacity Planning & Management – MFG: Experienced in forecasting production demand and aligning labor, equipment, and material resources accordingly. Skilled in using tools like SAP, MES, and Excel-based models to ensure optimal capacity utilization and responsiveness to demand fluctuations.

Lean Manufacturing: Deep knowledge of lean principles such as value stream mapping, takt time, and kaizen. Proven ability to lead lean initiatives that reduce waste, improve flow, and enhance productivity across manufacturing cells and assembly lines.

Manufacturing Equipment: Thorough understanding of Caterpillar’s production equipment, including CNC machines, robotic systems, and automated material handling. Capable of overseeing equipment selection, preventive maintenance programs, and continuous improvement of equipment performance.

Manufacturing Processes: Expertise in machining, welding, assembly, and paint processes used in heavy equipment manufacturing. Able to lead process development, troubleshoot production issues, and implement process controls to ensure consistent quality and throughput.

Manufacturing Safety: Strong commitment to safety culture and compliance with OSHA and Caterpillar EHS standards. Skilled in conducting risk assessments, implementing corrective actions, and promoting proactive safety behaviors across teams.

Manufacturing Standards, Procedures and Policies: Well-versed in Caterpillar’s manufacturing policies and quality standards. Able to guide teams in adhering to standardized work, audit protocols, and continuous improvement practices to maintain compliance and drive operational excellence.

Top candidates will also have:

  • Previous experience in automation
  • Previous experience in a foundry environment and/or with machining
  • Six Sigma Blackbelt certification
  • Previous experience with maintenance systems
  • A Master’s degree

Additional Information:

This position requires the candidate to work onsite five days a week at the Mapleton, IL office.

Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.

Summary Pay Range:

$110,520.00 - $165,840.00
