We are looking for a dynamic, organized self-starter to join our Product Support and Logistics Division as a Packaging Engineer in Morton, IL.

Job Summary:
- This Packaging Engineer executes solutions on packaging design and usage and related safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
Additional Info:
- This role is located in Morton, IL and does not offer relocation
- This role is 1st shift
- This role is 100% on-site with no opportunities for hybrid or remote schedules
- This role requires up to 10% domestic travel
What You Will Do:
- Internal Safety Controls
- Execute scorecard audit for Readiness and Execution for wood packaging facilities
- Manage Wood Issue Tracker - investigation and resolution of safety risks raised by customers, dealers, and distribution centers
- Conduct training on wood pack execution- new IPC (Inbound Processing Center) training and annual refresher training
- MS3131 and MS3132 Chain of Responsibility representative for Parts Distribution
- External Safety Controls
- Own Approved Supplier Design process – control process for supplier designs on heavy parts
- Drive supplier packaging improvement for safety related reasons
- Approved and documented ~300 supplier designs in 2024 and achieved 93.3% schedule coverage for parts over 500lbs
- Continuous improvement action mid-year to widen scope to parts over 250 lbs and drive schedule coverage to 70% in 2025 and 80% in 2026
- Rust Preventative Lead
- Maintain and improve on current specifications to reduce defect parts sold to dealer
- Review efficacy and test new formulas to drive lower dealer warranty claims due to rust
- YTD customer defect avoidance of $200K+
- Review new supplier formulations to support Customer Ready Packaging program
- Maintain and improve on current specifications to reduce defect parts sold to dealer
What You Have (Required Skills):
- Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment.
- Packaging: Knowledge of packaging tools, approaches and practices; ability to package products and components safely and attractively.
- Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
- Service Excellence: Knowledge of customer service concepts and techniques; ability to meet or exceed customer needs and expectations and provide excellent service in a direct or indirect manner.
What Will Put You Ahead (Preferred Skills):
- Bachelor’s degree in technical field or equivalent experience
- Understanding of Aftermarket Parts Network
- Experience in wood crate design and testing
- Rust Preventative evaluation experience

Summary Pay Range:
$87,480.00 - $131,280.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
