Job Summary:

Your role as a Supplier Quality Engineer at Caterpillar is to support End to End Site Quality function. This is a Senior, Principal QE role for Fabrication and Machining Facility, manufacturing Caterpillar’s Flag ship Track Type Tractor Machines. Role requires exceptional Problem-solving skills & High Energy to swiftly resolve quality issues and limit Impact to Production Lines. A Strong Engineer concurrently works to evaluate risk and develop Quality Assurance plans to focused leveraging Incoming quality audits and Supplier audits.

What You Will Do:

  • Sets priorities and recommend solutions to support production requirements
  • Leads cross functional team to solve complex supplier quality issues
  • Support for quality initiatives (Lean, Defect Free, APQP..etc)
  • Disposition of non-conforming material through analysis of defects and root cause identification

Education requirement:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering discipline.

  • Prepares clear reports and presentations related to supplier performance, audits, and quality metrics.
  • Communicates technical information in an accessible way when engaging cross-functional teams.
  • Reads and responds to non-verbal cues during supplier visits and team interactions.

Process Improvement:

  • Streamlines workflows related to supplier onboarding, audits, and corrective action processes.
  • Prioritizes and addresses process inefficiencies that impact product quality or delivery timelines.
  • Develops and implements controls for critical supplier-related processes using Six Sigma and Lean tools.
  • Monitors industry trends and external benchmarks to identify new methods for supplier quality improvement.
  • Analyzes data from improvement cycles to validate effectiveness and sustainability of changes.
  • Coaches suppliers and internal teams on continuous improvement practices.

Quality Orientation:

  • Collaborates with engineering, manufacturing, and procurement teams to define and align supplier quality standards.
  • Applies operational, customer, and regulatory perspectives to define quality expectations.
  • Utilizes tools such as APQP, PPAP, FMEA, and Control Plans to enhance supplier quality outcomes.
  • Resolves conflicts between quality and safety requirements through risk-based decision-making.
  • Monitors both tangible and perceived quality metrics to ensure stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Mentors team members in quality assurance methodologies and compliance standards.

Supplier Management – Manufacturing:

  • Facilitates strategic supplier partnerships that balance risk and reward.
  • Monitors supplier performance using KPIs and dashboards; addresses gaps through corrective actions.
  • Develops and enforces supplier quality standards using tools like SAP, Teamcenter, and QMS platforms.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with global suppliers across multiple categories.
  • Evaluates supplier issues and escalates or terminates relationships when necessary, in coordination with legal and procurement.
  • Ensures compliance with documentation, reporting, and record-keeping requirements.

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Expert with GD&T and Metrology Equipment (Vision Systems, CMM, 3D laser & Blue light Scanners)
  • ASQ quality certification- CQE, CRE, CMQ&OE, CQA, CSSBB
  • Automotive Product development/New product introduction (APQP) experience.
  • Weld Engineering Experience. ASNT-II or CWI
  • Experience with Product design and design software, Creo
  • Hands on experience with Data analysis tools & Powerbi, or similar visualization tools
  • Good human relations skills are needed to develop a cooperative work relationship with others inside and outside the department
  • General understanding of the Caterpillar organization, products, policies, and procedures

Additional Information:

This position requires the candidate to work onsite five days a week at the East Peoria, IL office.

Summary Pay Range:

$110,520.00 - $165,840.00
