About IPSD

Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L engines that not only power Caterpillar machines, but also power over 5000 other applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Caterpillar’s company strategy includes sustainability as one of four focus areas and IPSD is engaged and actively preparing green energy solutions for the future.

Job Summary:

Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division seeks a Configurator Systems Integration Senior Engineer in Mossville, IL to oversee the design and integration of 13L inline 6 diesel engine systems for Caterpillar machines and other commercial applications. The role includes end-to-end engine system design, manufacturing support, and post-production engineering, all performed in close collaboration with cross-functional teams. Projects culminate with on-site support at the Seguin, TX manufacturing facility.

What You Will Do:

  • Design C13D/2606 L4 complex engine systems including requirements definition, concept development, detailed design work, manufacturing support, and post-production ongoing engineering maintenance.

  • Ownership of the complete engine system bill of material.

  • Work closely with a cross-functional team of experts in the engine component team, engine application integration team, engine development team, certification team, and software team to successfully take engine projects from concept to complete, assembled engine

  • Provide engine system level technical leadership for Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, Marketing, and Product Support

  • Additional responsibilities may include continuous product improvement (factory and field), technical problem solving, project timeline management, factory change planning and implementation, and cost reduction

  • Make oral presentations and writes reports needed for own work including technical design review

  • Avoids technical jargon when inappropriate.

  • Helps to analyze risks and benefits of alternative approaches and obtain decisions on resolution.

  • Leads engineering design and concept selection

  • Basic concept modeling capabilities in Pro/Engineer Creo

  • Assists in building a complex prototype of product.

Systems Thinking: Working Knowledge of the critical interdependencies among individual system elements that help and hinder performance; ability to plan and design solutions that synchronize resources to achieve business results.

  • Monitors systems after interventions to confirm success and to diagnose new or remaining problems.

  • Analyzes the dynamics of a system to determine key characteristics, properties, and functions.

  • Escalates systemic problems that impede group performance.

  • Surfaces problems within systems and searches for root causes.

Summary Pay Range:

$110,520.00 - $165,840.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
